We’re mere weeks away from the premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Marvel Studios seems intent on swaying the one percent of the world that’s still undecided about the upcoming superhero spectacle with yet another action-packed sneak peek.
The 96-second clip features the evil android Ultron (voiced by James Spader) engaging in a bit of verbal sparring with his creator, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), before the pair drop the verbal part of that exchange and commence with the flying, blasting, and punching. There’s quite a bit of never-before-seen footage, as well as a good indication that Ultron is going to be more than just your average robot with a loose logic circuit.
The clip also includes some additional footage of Wanda “Scarlet Witch” Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Pietro “Quicksilver” Maximoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) appearing to operate from Ultron’s side of the battle lines at this point in the film.
The sequel to the most successful superhero movie of all time, Avengers: Age of Ultron is written and directed by Joss Whedon and pits Iron Man (Downey), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and the rest of the Avengers team against the artificially intelligent Ultron, who was spawned by a dormant peacekeeping program created by Tony Stark. When the powerful android determines that the only way to secure peace on the planet is to eliminate humanity (a popular conclusion for AI), the team must assemble once again to save the world.
Along with the aforementioned cast members, the film also brings back Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Don Cheadle as James “War Machine” Rhodes, Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill, and Stellan Skarsgård as scientist Erik Selvig. Paul Bettany will also make his debut as the Avengers’ new android teammate, Vision.
Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters May 1, 2015.
