That 12K resolution will be achieved by using three 4K monitors in sync, a strategy sometimes employed by racing fans eager to replicate the feeling of being behind the wheel for real– or at least replicate the experience of sitting in an arcade cabinet. With those three displays and a racing wheel, Project Cars has the potential to be one of the most immersive driving games of all time.
However, 12K resolution doesn’t come easy. Only the most robust rigs will have the necessary power to run at that sort of resolution with an appropriate frame rate. It’s therefore no secret that you’ll need a powerful computer to get the most out of this game, as its system requirements will attest.
As is often the case with PC gaming, Project Cars looks set to be an incredible experience — provided your computer can do it justice. Between the graphics, its finely tuned physics, and the potential for virtual reality support in the future, it could well be that this is the game to knock console-exclusive racing titles like Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport from their perch. That said, delays have kept fans waiting for longer than they may have liked, and hopefully the finished product won’t be held up any further.
Project Cars is set to release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this May. A Wii U release is expected to follow before the end of the year.
