The service is offering free weekends that are designed to help multiplayer titles grow their player base, and the developers of Chivalry over at Torn Banner Studios are doing everything in their power to help that effort. New maps, weapons, and gear are being added in via a free update, according to a report from PC Gamer.
Torn Banner Studios is deeming the weekend a ‘Community Fest,’ both in terms of the player-designed content being added and the hopes of new combatants joining the fray. Given that Chivalry managed to snag a place on our list of the best games on Steam, anyone trying the game for the first time this weekend should find a lot to enjoy.
First released in 2012, the game is the spiritual successor to Age of Chivalry, which was a Half-Life 2 mod also created by Torn Banner Studios. Melee combat with swords and maces is the focus, but ranged weaponry from longbows to pots of boiling oil can be used to turn the tide of battle.
Regular content drops have allowed the title to maintain a passionate audience. Free additions of maps, weapons, and gear have been supplemented with paid aesthetic content and the 2013 release of an expansion pack inspired by TV’s Deadliest Warrior.
All you need to take part in the Community Fest is a functioning Steam account — head to the game’s page on the Steam store and you’ll be able to download it free for the duration of the weekend. Plus, if you decide you want to continue playing beyond Sunday, the title is on sale for $4.99 until Monday.
