HTC’s latest Quad HD beast heads China, while the U.S. is stuck with the less powerful

Nowadays, it’s becoming harder and harder to keep track of HTC’s flagship devices. Here in the West, we just have the One M9, but make your way to Asia, and you’ll find the company’s two Quad HD beasts, the metal-clad One M9+ and the plastic-clad One E9+. Now, the Taiwanese company announced yet another smartphone destined for Asia, the One ME.

Much like the One M9+, the One ME also packs a 5.2-inch 2,560 x 1,440 screen, though because of its polycarbonate body and metal frame, the One ME is more like the spawn of the One M9+ and One E9+. Powering the One ME is a octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor, along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

The One ME eschews the Duo Camera setup found on the One M9+ for a more traditional single 20-megapixel sensor, while the one on the front is a 4-megapixel variant. The handset also features a fingerprint sensor on the bottom bezel, though, unlike the fingerprint sensor found on the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Apple iPhone 6, it does not function as a button. Finally, the non-removable 2,840mAh battery should help keep the lights on all day.

As is the case with the One M9+ and One E9+, the One ME will seemingly remain exclusive to China, though there is a chance it will also be available in India. HTC didn’t reveal any pricing information, but even so, we have yet another HTC smartphone under the One moniker, muddling HTC’s original message about cutting down the number of smartphones it releases and keeping things tidy and organized.

It also brings up the question of why the West didn’t get any of these three Quad HD monsters instead of the One M9 we did get. In our review, we ended up recommended the One M9, though because of intensified competition, it’s no longer our top choice in the land of Android smartphones.
