Director Justin Lin announced the movie’s title this week via Twitter, and accompanied the news with a photo from the set of the film featuring an emblem on a Starfleet uniform.

Captioned “Let the next Starfleet voyage begin! #StarTrekBeyond #LLAP” the photo features an emblem with the iconic delta insignia from the Star Trek franchise. The image on the emblem — which appears on a Starfleet uniform — is ringed by the designation “Starfleet” and “United Federation of Planets.”
Early rumors had suggested that the film might be titled Star Trek Beyond, but Lin’s confirmation makes it official.
Currently in production, Star Trek Beyond will reunite franchise stars Chris Pine (as James T. Kirk), Zachary Quinto (as Mr. Spock), Zoe Saldana (as Uhura), Karl Urban (as Dr. “Bones” McCoy), Simon Pegg (as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott), Anton Yelchin (as Chekov), and John Cho (as Sulu) as the crew of the starship U.S.S. Enterprise. Little is known about the plot of the film at this point.
Along with the returning cast members, Luther and Pacific Rim star Idris Elba is attached to play the film’s villain, whose identity is unknown at this point. Kingsman: The Secret Service actress Sofia Boutella has also been cast in an unidentified role.
With the Star Trek franchise celebrating its 50th anniversary next year, Star Trek Beyond is expected to be the centerpiece of a large-scale celebration of the long-running sci-fi franchise. The film’s script was co-written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, with Fast & Furious franchise director Lin taking over directorial duties from J.J. Abrams, who directed the first two films of the rebooted franchise.
Star Trek Beyond is currently scheduled to hit theaters July 8, 2016.
