Hugh Jackman who? Here’s Betty White and Nick Offerman auditioning to play Wolverine

Wolverine Auditions - CONAN on TBS
Hugh Jackman has indicated that the upcoming, third Wolverine solo movie will be his last portrayal of the clawed Canadian mutant, and that news has resulted in no shortage of speculation regarding who — if anyone — has the claws to pick up where the franchise star left off. Thankfully, there are some people out there who have the sort of high-level access to provide fans with a much-needed update on the search for a new Wolverine.

On a recent episode of his late-night show, Conan O’Brien screened a brief segment featuring some of the Wolverine auditions that have taken place behind the scenes as 20th Century Fox prepares for Jackman’s departure. Among the familiar faces attempting to win the role were Parks and Recreation actor Nick Offerman, fellow talk-show host Larry King, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actor Patton Oswalt (who manages to capture Jackman’s affinity for showtunes, if nothing else), and with possibly the best audition of them all (no surprise there), 93-year-old Golden Girls actress Betty White.

Okay, so they weren’t real auditions, but honestly, who wouldn’t want to see Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson-ized version of Wolverine?

Also appearing in the segment are Silicon Valley actor Thomas Middleditch, Saturday Night Live actor/writer Hannibal Buress (who thinks he’d make a better Gambit), Masters of Sex actor Michael Sheen (who may be confusing the character a bit), and The Last Man on Earth actress Kristen Schaal (who makes a pretty good case for a role in the Ghostbusters reboot).

O’Brien’s late-night talk show Conan airs weeknights at 10pm ET on TBS.

As for Jackman, he’ll appear as Wolverine in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, hitting theaters May 27, 2016. After that, he’ll star in the still-untitled Wolverine solo movie that will be his swan song as the character. That film is scheduled to premiere March 3, 2017.

Logo for WWE Backlash France.

A WWE Premium Live Event (PLE) is heading to Lyon Metropolis for the first time for WWE Backlash France 2024. Since the formation of TKO in September 2023, WWE has prioritized global expansion. In 2024, Backlash France is the second PLE to be held outside the U.S., and it won't be the last. Five of the next six WWE PLEs will take place outside the U.S.

Heading into Backlash, WWE is entering the "American Nightmare Era." After finishing his story at WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes is now the Undisputed WWE Champion. A different era means a new crop of challengers for Rhodes. First up is AJ Styles, a former two-time WWE champion. Rhodes must bring his A-game if he wants to walk out of France as champion.

If you have to watch one Star Wars movie this May the 4th, stream this one
Luke looking off into the binary sunset before dying in The Last Jedi.

Every Star Wars fan has a favorite movie, and many Star Wars fans also hate at least one of the entries in one of their favorite franchises. That can make the exercise of choosing the perfect Star Wars movie to watch on May the 4th difficult. For all of the love this fan base has shown to the franchise over the years, it's also a fan base that has strong opinions about why one movie or another is worthy of your time.

This May 4, though, I'd recommend watching Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Almost undoubtedly the most controversial entry in the saga, one that makes some people furious and others jump for joy, The Last Jedi is worthy of your attention, whether you like what it's doing or not. Here are three reasons you should check it out:
