There are many different components to a high-end gaming setup, but one of the most important comes after your rig has been built — your mouse. While any old pointer will do, many hardcore gamers would argue that there’s no point in investing in a top-drawer PC if your input device is going to let you down.
That’s the sort of market that Cougar is targeting with its gaming mice, and today the company unveiled two new models to join its current offerings. The 550M is being rolled out as Cougar’s new flagship device, packing an SDNS-3988 optical sensor that boasts accurate tracking up to 6400 DPI.
In terms of input, the 550M is par for the course; left and right click, a clickable scroll wheel, browser navigation buttons and a means of quickly switching between DPI presets. The mouse uses OMRON micro switches, which are guaranteed for 5 million clicks — which should provide a long lifespan to even the most dedicated gamer.
Both mice use Cougar’s robust UIX customization suite. The bundled software package offers complete control over the way the device operates, allowing users to tweak the function of each button, personalize the look of their mouse via its RGB backlighting system, or fine-tune settings like sensitivity and polling rate.
The 500M adopts a very similar physical design to the 550M, but with a lower DPI, a reduced feature set, and a smaller price tag. The 550M will retail for $59, while the 500M will be offered at a price of $39. Both models will be made available over the next few weeks, according to a report from Tom’s Hardware.
