Xseed reaps record-breaking sales from Story of Seasons on 3DS

Video game publisher and localization studio Xseed Games announced that its farming-themed Nintendo 3DS simulation RPG Story of Seasons has become the company’s fastest-selling game ever, moving over 100,000 copies since its North American launch on March 31.

Story of Seasons‘ success outpaces Xseed’s former record-holder Rune Factory 4, which has sold over 160,000 copies to date.

Xseed previously named Mistwalker’s Wii-exclusive RPG The Last Story as its “most successful title to date” in 2012. The studio has produced a number of localized Japanese games for consoles and portable platforms in recent years, including Pandora’s Tower, Senran Kagura Burst, Ys: Memories of Celceta, and Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed.

Xseed has also been active on PC platforms, releasing English-language Steam versions of Falcom’s Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim and The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. The company’s next PC project, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC is due to launch in August.

Story of Seasons is the latest entry in Marvelous AQL’s long-running Harvest Moon series. Dating back to the 16-bit era, games in the Harvest Moon series challenge players to cultivate a thriving farm empire while maintaining friendships and finding love with villagers in nearby towns.

Due to a publisher conflict regarding the title “Harvest Moon,” the latest Japanese entry in the series was localized for North America under the title Story of Seasons. Publisher Natsume retains its North American rights to the series in name only, publishing unrelated games from internal studios under the Harvest Moon banner.

Natsume published its first internally developed Harvest Moon game, Harvest Moon 3D: The Lost Valley, for the Nintendo 3DS last year. Borrowing land-shaping gameplay features from Mojang’s Minecraft, The Lost Valley retained many of the elements that defined the Harvest Moon series while shifting its play mechanics in new directions.

The next Story of Seasons game, the cross-franchise spinoff Return to PopoloCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale will premiere for the Nintendo 3DS in North America this winter.

Is Manor Lords multiplayer or co-op?

You can easily lose hours designing your village and appeasing your citizens in Manor Lords all by yourself. There are so many different avenues to achieve victory, but the only competition or help you can normally find is in the form of NPCs. Other factions around the map can be helpful or harmful depending on how you play, but what if you wanted to team up with a friend to combine resources, or perhaps compete to see who can crush the other first? Many strategy and city builders thrive on multiplayer components, but does Manor Lords offer those same modes? Make sure you know the answer before making your purchase if that's your intention.
Is there multiplayer or co-op in Manor Lords?
To cut to the chase, the answer is no. Manor Lords is a purely single-player experience through and through. There are no cooperative or competitive modes in the game at all, so there's no way to interact with anyone else either on PC or console. This game was just released out of early access, and there is plenty of content on the way, however, we regret to inform you that multiplayer is not in the plans for the time being.

One developer took to the Steam forums to release an FAQ on the game. One question specifically asked if there is any multiplayer or cooperative gameplay in the game. The response said that "he focus is on a refined single-player experience, with no multiplayer or cooperative modes planned at the moment."

How to get a gun
To give yourself a gun in Another Crab's Treasure, head over to the Settings menu. Navigate to Assist Mode at the bottom of the menu, then scroll to the bottom once more to a setting called Give Kril a Gun. Toggle this on, then back out and resume your game to find that Kril now has a massive pistol on his back in place of a shell.

This new gun on your back provides you with more than just a funny visual, though -- it actually allows you to shoot and kill any enemy in a single hit, nearly eliminating all of the challenge from the game. Additionally, if you're after trophies or achievements, the first time you shoot a crab with the gun will also unlock "This Kills the Crab."
