See more of Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs in biopic’s latest trailer

Say what you will about Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, but he certainly wasn’t one to downplay the importance of the products he had a hand in creating. That aspect of Jobs’ personality is on full display in the most recent preview of director Danny Boyle’s upcoming biopic of the iconic entrepreneur, as portrayed by Oscar-nominated actor Michael Fassbender.

Based on a script from Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin (The Social NetworkMoneyball) and based on Walter Isaacson’s best-selling biography of Jobs, Steve Jobs chronicles Jobs’ life and career against the backdrop of three major product announcements at various points in his timeline. The film concludes with the 1998 unveiling of the iMac, one of the landmark products of Jobs’ tenure as the guiding force at Apple.

Along with Fassbender as Jobs, the film stars Kate Winslet as former Macintosh marketing chief Joanna Hoffman, Seth Rogen as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Jeff Daniels as former Apple CEO John Sculley, Michael Stuhlbarg as original Apple Macintosh development team member Andy Hertzfeld, and Katherine Waterston as Jobs’ former girlfriend Chrisann Brennan.

Last month, it was announced that Steve Jobs will be the Centerpiece film at this year’s New York Film Festival, which kicks off September 25 and runs through October 11. The film will be screened Sunday, October 3, before opening in wide release a week later.

“You hear that a bio of Steve Jobs is being produced, and of course you see multiple possible movies in your head … but not this one,” said New York Film Festival Director and Selection Committee Chair Kent Jones in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Steve Jobs is dramatically concentrated, yet beautifully expansive; it’s extremely sharp; it’s wildly entertaining, and the actors just soar — you can feel their joy as they bite into their material.”

Steve Jobs is scheduled to hit theaters Friday, October 9.

Netflix has generally weathered the aftermath of the 2023 Hollywood strikes better than its streaming rivals. However, Netflix's lineup in May looks significantly weaker than in the recent past. There's a distinct lack of blockbuster movies from other studios. Even Netflix's original series are slowing down this month. The most significant arrival is Bridgerton season 3, and Netflix is splitting that season into two parts, making fans wait until June to get some closure.

There are other highlights, including Jerry Seinfeld's Unfrosted, Blood of Zeus, and the complete run of the animated spy comedy Archer. But compared to the shows and movies that Netflix had earlier in 2024, it's really lackluster.
