Only a few days after a Skylake-equipped Pavilion x360 convertible notebook was leaked, HP has reportedly decided to go all-out with the introduction of a Spectre x2 Windows tablet, complete with a Core M Skylake processor as well as a detachable keyboard, according to Notebook Italia.
A recent FCC filing indicates that the new Spectre x2 model will apparently feature a 12.5-inch display with at least three configuration options, all of which are denoted below:
- Core M-6Y30 CPU, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD
- Core M-6Y54 CPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
- Core M-6Y75 CPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
All three options are forecasted to sport 802.11ac Wi-Fi adapters, with the tablet and keyboard weighing in at about 2.6 pounds. Therefore, this edition of the Spectre x2 will be remarkably lighter than its predecessor, which measured in at a total of 4.4 pounds, though some of that weight was notably due to the larger display, recorded at 13.3 inches.
Of course, outfitted with the Intel Core M processor, a fanless design wouldn’t be out of the ordinary, especially since a fan-based cooling system wasn’t present in the original.
This could also mean an improved battery life for the device which, as we pointed out in our review of the original Spectre x2, was disappointing in comparison to other tablets. The Core M processors are designed with ultra low voltages in mind, perfect for extensive use.
More concrete details will remain sparse, however, until HP officially reveals the product. The Spectre x2 12 is expected to be revealed at the IFA trade show located in Berlin, Germany early next month. The original Spectre x2 tablet retailed for $1,100, so it would be safe to assume a similar price range.
