Tom Hanks is ‘humanity’s final hope’ in teaser trailer for Da Vinci Code series’ Inferno

Tom Hanks is back as The Da Vinci Code‘s Robert Langdon, and it’s up to him to save the world once again. Sony Pictures Entertainment dropped a new teaser trailer for Inferno on Monday, showing the symbologist-slash-hero’s latest hellacious task.

The trailer doesn’t waste any time in showing how high the stakes are for Langdon, not to mention humanity in general. “There is a switch,” we hear. “If you throw it, half the people on earth will die, but if you don’t, in 100 years, the human race will be extinct.”

As it turns out, someone has created a terrifying plague. All hope isn’t lost yet, though, because the evil mastermind has also oh-so-kindly left a path for Langdon to stop it. However, it’s “the hardest one yet,” according to the man. “Only you can finish it. You are humanity’s final hope.”

Obviously, that’s a lot of pressure on Langdon, but he’ll have help from Dr. Sienna Brooks (played by Felicity Jones). The trailer shows the two of them puzzling over a clue, which as it turns out is Dante’s Inferno. The duo needs to determine why they’ve been left a map of hell, how to find the virus, and how to prevent the horrors to come.

On top of all the challenges shown in the trailer, the film’s official synopsis reveals that Langdon will be battling amnesia — at least initially. Dr. Brooks’ involvement is apparently to help him restore his memory, but she gets swept up in the chaos that ensues. Inferno is based on Dan Brown’s novel of the same name, which is the third in the Da Vinci Code series.

The screenplay was written by acclaimed screenwriter David Koepp, and Oscar winner Ron Howard serves as director. Inferno is slated to hit theaters on October 28.

The best movies on Amazon Prime Video (May 2024)
Nicholas Galitzine and Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You.

Amazon Prime Video is starting off strong in May with several new additions to its library of movies, including the premiere of the original romantic drama The Idea of You. Last year's underrated Christmas drama The Holdovers is also now streaming on Prime Video. And as far as we're concerned, a good drama is never out of season.

Prime Video lost a handful of movies at the end of April, and Paul Thomas Anderson's Licorice Pizza is only sticking around through the end of the weekend. But everything else on our list of the best movies on Amazon Prime Video right now is still available. Just keep reading, and you can make plans to watch any of the films that you want to see this month.

The 50 best movies on Netflix right now (May 2024)
Jenna Ortega in Miller's Girl.

It should come as no surprise that this year's hit rom-com Anyone But You has a stranglehold on the top slot of the list of the most popular movies on Netflix. But it is somewhat surprising to see Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver completely disappear from the list. That's going to make Rebel Moon – Part Three very unlikely to happen, and it may even discourage Netflix from committing extremely high budgets to its original sci-fi movies.

More tellingly, two of this week's new additions are modestly budget dramas: Miller's Girl and The Judge. The former features Wednesday's Jenna Ortega, while the latter has great lead performances by Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall. So it's not a mystery as to why both of those films are two of the top performers of the week.

MCU’s Fantastic Four: release date, trailer, cast, plot
The cast of "The Fantastic Four."

It's not a coincidence that one of the first Marvel movies announced after Disney purchased 20th Century Fox's entertainment assets in 2019 was a new reboot of The Fantastic Four. In 1961, Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby launched the Marvel Universe as we know it with Fantastic Four #1, and it was the comic that set the tone for everything that came after.

Because the rights to the Fantastic Four were tied up at Fox for the better part of two decades, FF supporting players like Silver Surfer were withheld from the MCU. Now that the characters are firmly under Marvel Studios' control, the sky's the limit for the upcoming reboot. And we're here to share everything we know about The Fantastic Four so far.
Who has been cast in The Fantastic Four?
