“We wanted to create something similarly graceful, athletic and confident, but not aggressive or overbearing,” says Gregory Guillaume, Kia’s European design chief. And it’s abundantly clear with the introduction of the new Kia GT concept that they have achieved just that.

While almost every new Kia design has been created for a front-wheel-drive platform, the new GT concept design has expanded to the rear-wheel-dive realm.

While some may take issue with the exterior design of the new Kia GT concept (some displeasure has been voiced over in particular of the headlamp design) there can be no question that what is under the hood is sure to impress. The GT concept is powered by a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6, producing 389 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque, with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Genesis turns up the heat with GV60 Magma concept

In just eight years, Genesis has become a credible rival to century-old luxury brands. But one thing that's been missing is a performance sub-brand equivalent to the BMW M, Mercedes-AMG, or even parent Hyundai's N. That's about to change — and performance EVs are part of the plan.

Ahead of the 2024 New York Auto Show, Genesis announced Magma, which will produce performance versions of the brand's cars. The name comes from the bright orange paint that will be Magma's calling card, which could be seen at the reveal on a Magma-fied version of the Genesis GV60 electric SUV, as well as the gasoline G80 sedan and GV80 Coupe SUV.

The Rivian R2 is finally coming. After months of rumors and speculation, Rivian finally took the wraps off of the upcoming SUV at an event in Los Angeles. The R2 is positioned as a cheaper alternative to the much-loved R1S, offering many of the standout features and design elements but at a more approachable price.

But it enters a market filled with serious competition. The Kia EV6 is one of the most-loved EVs out there, thanks to its stylish and unique design, solid range, and stellar charging speed. It's a different beast than the Rivian R2, to be sure -- but how do the two compare? We put them head to head.
Design
The differences between the Rivian R2 and Kia EV6 are perhaps no more apparent than in their design. They look completely different — and they're different sizes too. The Rivian R2 is a midsize SUV, while the Kia EV6 is more of a crossover. They both only have enough room for two rows of seats, but the R2 is definitely larger, and that will translate to more space on the inside, which we'll get into later.

Carmakers are in the process of reinventing the wheel. While some companies are simply slapping an electric powertrain in an existing chassis and calling it a day, the majority of companies are taking the transition to electrified as an opportunity to redesign their lineups completely -- both outside and in. Just look at the EV6, a car that would be impossible to imagine in Kia's lineup just five years ago.

But while the fresh and new exterior designs are fun to look at, it's the interior that really impacts the driving experience. And while plenty of companies are making great changes to their car interiors, in my opinion, there's no carmaker that has created a better experience than Kia with the new EV9.
