New iPod Coming?

New iPod Coming?

There’s plenty of secrecy surrounding the major announcement Apple is due to make on September 5, and the speculation is that the company is set to announce the launch of a new iPod.

At least, that’s the betting among observers who have specialist knowledge, and the general consensus is that it will be a high-end model with an interface very similar to Apple’s new iPhone.

It would certainly make sense, with the announcement coming in perfect time for the company to roll out the product in time for the holidays.

“It’s time for the Christmas refresh,” Rob Enderle, president and principal analyst with Enderle Group, noted. “Apple needs a set of hot new products to try to drive fourth-quarter sales.”

Certainly it would make sense to have a full-screen iPod, allowing the iPod to join the world of the company’s devices that run the OSX operating system. Additionally, it would bring a whole new audience to the MultiTouch system, paving the way for the company to build it into Macs.

Finally, as some have noted, it would keep up the press about Apple and its image as an agent of change. That’s perhaps very important as its iTunes dominance comes under fire with the launch of new music download services, such as the one just announced by Nokia.

Some speculate that the new iPod will essentially operate like the iPod part of the iPhone. But, of course, for now it’s all guesswork. Still, it’s created expectations and helped thecompany – Apple’s stock rose US$7.36, or 5.8%, in Wednesday’s trading.

Revisiting the rise of A.I.: How far has artificial intelligence come since 2010?

2010 doesn’t seem all that long ago. Facebook was already a giant, time-consuming leviathan; smartphones and the iPad were a daily part of people’s lives; The Walking Dead was a big hit on televisions across America; and the most talked-about popular musical artists were the likes of Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber. So pretty much like life as we enter 2020, then? Perhaps in some ways.

One place that things most definitely have moved on in leaps and bounds, however, is on the artificial intelligence front. Over the past decade, A.I. has made some huge advances, both technically and in the public consciousness, that mark this out as one of the most important ten year stretches in the field’s history. What have been the biggest advances? Funny you should ask; I’ve just written a list on exactly that topic.

New cardiology A.I. knows if you’ll die soon. Doctors can’t explain how it works
cardiology ai predicts death toe tag

Here’s a scenario scary enough to warrant a horror movie: An artificial intelligence that is able to accurately predict your chances of dying in the next year by looking at heart test results, despite the fact that the results may look totally fine to trained doctors. The good news: The technology might just wind up saving your life one day.

“We have developed two different artificial intelligence algorithms that can automatically analyze electrical tracings from the heart and make predictions about the likelihood of a future important clinical event,” Brandon Fornwalt, from Pennsylvania-based healthcare provider Geisinger, told Digital Trends.
