Mega Man Legends 3 fans petition for continued development on cancelled game

Last week, Capcom announced the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3, a Nintendo 3DS game that was originally set to receive a downloadable demo — Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Version — when the 3DS eShop launched in June. The Internet being what it is, fans quickly mobilized with an online call to arms.

The group 100,000 Strong For Bringing Back Mega Man Legends 3 is looking to gather together 100,000 like-minded fans to support the continued development of the cancelled game. The associated Facebook page has picked up more than 27,000 “Likes” since it launched last week.

Capcom’s European Twitter feed sent out a message last week about the cancellation, saying: “Unfortunately so few fans took part in the creation of the game. It was felt the project was not worthwhile.” The tweet refers to the Capcom Devroom, which solicits input from fans to aid in a game’s development. One has to wonder where those 27,000+ fans were when the Devroom was active.

Five engaging RTS games to play after Minecraft Legends
Pikmin in Pikmin 3 Deluxe.

Minecraft Legends launches today and provides a great jumping-on point for the real-time strategy game genre. Although RTS games can be quite intimidating to get into, after playing Minecraft Legends, you should have some familiarity with action-strategy RTS games that have the player command a group of minions, as well as more traditional titles in the genre centered around accruing resources to build up bases and take down your opponents.
Now that you know those core ideas, you should have a much more enjoyable experience exploring the rest of the genre through various other titles across PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. So, once you’re done with Minecraft Legends, consider checking out one of these five games.
Pikmin 3 Deluxe

If Minecraft Legends’ action-strategy setup that had you commanding units as an active character within the game’s world was most appealing to you, then you’ll want to check out other games within this RTS subgenre. The most notable series of this type is Pikmin, and the most readily available game in that series is Pikmin 3 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch. This game follows three astronaut captains stranded on an alien planet who must work with the titular carrot-like creatures that inhabit it to find enough food to save their own home planet.
Pikmin 3 Deluxe goes all-in on the unit-commanding aspect of Minecraft Legends, as you’ll be commanding multiple types of different Pikmin to collect things, fight enemies, and help you explore beautifully handcrafted levels. It has the cuteness, charm, and gameplay intuitiveness you’d expect from a Nintendo game and is a must-play for action-strategy RTS fans. Pikmin 3 Deluxe is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch. You should also be on the lookout for Pikmin 4, which releases for Nintendo Switch on July 21.

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection is a must-own postmortem
Mega Man blasts an enemy in Mega Man Battle Network.

In an industry where video game franchises continue for decades, it’s always surprising when a popular series ends. That was the case with Mega Man Battle Network, Capcom’s beloved tactical RPG series that still has a fierce cult following today. The Mega Man spinoff moved like a whirlwind in the early 2000s, debuting on the Game Boy Advance in 2001 and releasing six mainline titles through 2005. Its momentum stopped dead after that, going from an annualized series to a defunct one in the blink of an eye.

Now 18 years after the release of its final game, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection is giving the series its nostalgic moment in the sun. The compilation includes all six mainline games, some of which have two different versions like Pokémon. That means fans are getting 10 RPGS for the price of one, making it the most “bang for your buck” game release of the year so far. Regardless of whether or not every single one is worth playing, it’s an easy recommendation.

You need to get this oddball Zelda game for free before the 3DS eShop closes
legend of zelda twilight princess nintendo wii grandma grandmother reddit 755 hours

The day of reckoning is fast approaching: The Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShop isclosing down on March 27. When that happens, you’ll no longer be able to make any digital purchases on those systems. Considering that several games on each platform only ever got digital releases, it’s creating a bit of a preservation nightmare. Hidden gems that never came to another platform, like Affordable Space Adventures, will be totally lost to time.

But it isn’t just obscure indies that are impacted by that change: One of Nintendo’s biggest franchises is about to lose a piece of its storied history. You’ve only got just over a week to grab a certain Legend of Zelda game before it disappears forever -- though it’s probably not one you’re expecting.
