Sonic x Shadow Generations brings back Sonic Adventure 2 nostalgia this fall

Sonic x Shadow Generations, a remake of the 2011 original with additional content, was revealed at the January State of Play showcase. It will be coming to PlayStation platforms this autumn.

Sega made a surprise appearance at Sony’s State of Play presentation with an enhanced remake of Sonic Generations, now titled Sonic x Shadow Generations. This game will include all the content from the original release, as well as add Shadow as a new playable character alongside the two iterations of Sonic.

The trailer opened with footage of both modern and classic Sonic gameplay from the original before Shadow appeared to steal the spotlight. Shadow’s gameplay appears to be exclusively in the 3D style and features him racing through sci-fi-looking stages and facing off against a mix of robotic enemies, as well as the massive bosses the series is known for. It is unclear how many new stages Shadow will have in this release, or if any other major improvements to the game will be included.

Sonic t Shadow Generations will be the second console Sonic game in less than a year following the release of Sonic Superstars in October 2023. Sonic Generations was originally released to celebrate Sonic’s 20th anniversary by combining both the classic 2D style gameplay with modern 3D stages. The original game is still widely viewed as a great entry in the franchise that is sadly unavailable on modern platforms aside from PC.

Sonic x Shadow Generations will arrive on PlayStation 4 and 5 sometime in autumn 2024.

Play the Planet of the Apes game that time forgot after watching the new movie

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters this weekend. If you were hoping to find ways to spend more time in that world through video games, your options are surprisingly slim. Your only easy option is Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier. This is a game I’ve seen almost no one talk about since it was released, but it’s a fascinating title that warrants a revisit.

Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier is set in the universe of this rebooted Planet of the Apes saga and is essentially a playable movie where players make choices to affect the narrative. It was even made by The Imaginarium, a production company founded by motion capture master Andy Serkis. Released for PS4 in 2017 before coming to PC and Xbox in 2018, Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier barely mustered much attention at and after its release.

Unlock Developer Menu

When a game is still being made, developers often include a special menu they can access to change various settings on the fly to test things out. Typically, these menus are then disabled for the full release since they would essentially allow anyone to cheat and break the game. The Unlock Developer Menu mod brings that feature back so you can change all sorts of options with ease. You can think of it like accessing a command menu, only it's much more user-friendly. With it, you can do things like spawn weapons, zombies, and plague hearts, and add followers and enclaves just by hitting F2. The only thing to be aware of is that not all the functions are enabled, and the modder isn't planning on fixing them since it was not created by them, only reenabled.
