“PDP makers expect that demand might even exceed supply in the third or fourth quarter of the year if the current trend continues. “While we had difficulties in luring customers last year, orders exceed production capacity in this year. We have not been able to fulfill some 10 percent of orders now,” said Ryu Jae-hwa, executive director at LG Electronics. Samsung SDI, the world’s largest PDP maker, is also receiving more orders than it can supply. According to an official from the company, the world market for PDPs in the first quarter of the year reached about 1.4 million units, up nearly 20 percent from the previous quarter. Considering that sales in the first quarter usually accounts for 18 to 20 percent of the total annual shipment, the entire shipment for this year is forecast to reach seven million units. The figure is larger than the 6 million to 6.5 million total annual shipment earlier projected by PDP makers.”
