AT&T Takes U-verse to Circuit City, Walmart

Telecommunications operator AT&T has announced it will begin selling its U-verse broadband Internet and digital video service through retailers Circuit City and Walmart beginning this month. The offerings will be available in more than 600 retail locations in and near neighborhoods where U-verse services are available: right now, that includes regions of Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin, although AT&T plans to expand the offering to other locations in the future.

“We’ve been expanding U-verse availability at a rapid pace, and now we’re expanding the way millions of consumers can learn about the benefits of AT&T U-verse and order the service,” said AT&T’s president of national distribution Glenn Lurie, in a statement.

The move marts the first national retail deal for AT&T’s U-verse service. Consumer will be able to learn more about the service from in-store kiosks as well as from salespeople.

AT&T says it will have over 1 million U-verse TV customers online by the end of 2008, and plans to expand that number to more than 30 million by the end of 2010.

U-verse is a fiber-based, high-bandwidth broadband Internet and home video offering that can also subsume home telephone service.
