Canon Unveils Pixma iP100 Mobile Printer

Canon has unveiled its Pixma iP100 portable printer, offering photo-capable resolution of up to 9,600 by 1,200 dpi in a package measuring just over one foot across and weighing only 4.4 pounds. The iP100 is intended for the travelling professional who needs to produce top-notch color documents while on the road (such as text and graphics for a presentation) and to consumers who want to be able to print color photos during a vacation.

“There has never been a greater need for mobile technology than now. Being able to complete your job during any situation and have it look better than your competition is a very real issue,” said Canon Consumer Imaging Group general manager and senior VP Yuichi Ishizuka, in a statement. “Canon raises the bar in meeting this need with the new PIXMA iP100 Mobile Printer.”

The iP100 can manage up to 14 pages per minute in color and 20 pages per minute in black-and-white mode, and offers USB 2.0 and a PictBridge port for printing images directly off a PictBridge-compatible camera. Users can print borderless prints ranging from 4 × 6 inches all the way up to letter size, and an optional IrDA port enables wireless printing. The iP100 will also be available with an optional Bluetooth adapter for wireless printing from Bluetooth devices (cell phones, cameras, etc.). For folks who need t print on the go, Canon will offer an optional lithium-ion batter pack good for about 290 pages per charge, along with an optional Automobile Power Unit to push the printer using a car’s built-in power socket.

The iP100 will carry an estimated price of $249.99; the Bluetooth unit will o for an additional $49.99, while the car power adapter and lithium-ion battery packs are priced at $89.99 and $99.99, respectively.
