MTV Buys Teen Puzzle Site Quizilla

Viacom’s MTV Networks has acquired online puzzle and sharing site Quizilla from Gorilla Nation Media LLC, on behalf of the company’s Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Group.

“Quizilla.com is a terrific destination and another interactive and creative online environment that we’re adding to MTV Networks’ portfolio of targeted digital brands,” said Judy McGrath, MTV Networks’ Chairman and CEO. “This marks another great step forward with our strategy of continuing to transform MTVN into a global, multi-platform entertainment company that engages our diverse audiences wherever, whenever and however they want.”

Never heard of Quizilla? You might be outside their demographic. Quizilla is ranked as a top-five online destination for teen girls, drawing 3.1 million unique vistors during Septeber 2006, according to comScore Media Metrix. Users create and share quizzes, writing, poetry, polls, and other creative content with their friends and the larger Quizilla community. MTV plans to combine Quizilla with The-N.com’s embedded video player to “provide its teen female audience with a 360 degree, multi-platform entertainment experience with an unprecedented platform for creating and sharing content with their peers.”

“The acquisition of Quizilla combined with The-N.com and NeoPets will further deepen our already strong connection with our audience and provide them with new ways to experience our content on The N as well as the ability to create and share their own creative ideas and passions through Quizilla,” said Cyma Zarghami, President, Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group. This is a great complement to our portfolio of brands that super serve preschoolers, kids, teens, parents and families overall.”

Quizilla is expected to complement the online games and sharing features Nickelodeon is rolling out to both kids and parents, and expand the range of MTV’s targeting online brands…and maybe marks another domino in MTV’s quest for world domination. After all, first they took away your music videos, and you did nothing. Now they’re taking away your sites for teenage girls. Will you stand idly by?
