Here’s how — and where — to get Apple’s new 9.7-inch iPad

Apple wants to play a bigger role in the education sector and unveiled a new 9.7-inch iPad that not only improves on the specs of last year’s 9.7-inch iPad, but also on the price, specifically when it comes to schools.

The new iPad offers a number of awesome features, including a beautiful 9.7-inch Retina display, an A10 Fusion processor, a battery that should last for 10 hours, and, for the first time in a non-Pro model, Apple Pencil support. The device is available in three different colors — silver, gold, and space gray.

Whether you want the iPad straight from Apple, or you prefer to get it from your preferred carrier, here is how to get your hands on the new 9.7-inch iPad.

Perhaps the best way to get the new iPad for yourself is straight from Apple. Apart from the actual iPad, you will also be able to get the Apple Pencil for $100, if you’re a consumer, or $80 if you’re a school. Last but not least, if you want a smart keyboard cover with you’re iPad, you can get it for $40. Here is a rundown of the iPad pricing you get from Apple.

Best Buy

Best Buy is offering the new iPad, too — and it has some pretty sweet deals to entice potential customers. For starters, if you buy the new device through Best Buy, you get a $25 gift card, and Best Buy is offering savings of up to $125 when you trade in an old iPad model. Here is how much you will pay for the iPad upfront from Best Buy.

  • 32GB iPad: $330

Verizon

Apple isn’t the only company offering the new 2018 9.7-inch iPad. If you prefer to get it through Verizon, the cellular version of the device is now available both in-store and online, and it’s perfect for those that want to bundle it into their data plan. Here’s the pricing of the cellular iPad through Verizon.

  • 32GB iPad with cellular: $460

AT&T is also offering the cellular version of the 2018 9.7-inch iPad. The pricing is similar to other carriers — and it’s available both in-store and online. Pricing can be found below.

  • 128GB iPad with cellular: $560 or 28 per month for 20 months

Sprint

Sprint is also offering the new iPad, though you have to wait a few days if you want to buy it in-store. While it’s available for order online now, it will come to stores starting on April 6. Sprint is also offering savings for those that want to open a new line — if you open a new line with the company and pay for an iPad in monthly installments, you will save $100. Here is the pricing for the new iPad from Sprint.

  • 32GB iPad with cellular: $460 upfront or $15 per month for 24 months with a new line.
  • 128GB iPad with cellular: $560 upfront or $15 per month for 24 months with a $100 down-payment when opening a new line.

T-Mobile

T-Mobile announced that it will be selling the new iPad, and if you want to get it from T-Mobile, it’s available now. The device is available both online and in-store, and there are a few options for pricing depending on your credit. The different options can be found below.

  • 32GB iPad with cellular: $460, or $18 per month for 24 months with a $28 downpayment and good credit, or $4 per month for 24 months with a $364 down-payment and average credit.
  • 128GB iPad with cellular: $560, or $22 per month for 24 months with a $32 downpayment, or $5 per month for 24 months with a $440 down-payment and average credit.

U.S. Cellular

U.S. Cellular is also offering the new iPad, and it’s available both online and in-store now. You can find pricing for the device below.

  • 32GB iPad with cellular: $460, or $19.05 per month for 24 months, or $12.70 per month for 36 months.
  • 128GB iPad with cellular: $560, or $23.25 per month for 24 months, or $15.50 per month for 36 months.

You may have to wait a while longer for new iPads

Just days ago, the Chinese website IT Home said Apple would announce the launch of its 2024 iPads on Tuesday, March 26. However, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman — who still believes new iPads will arrive this spring — has debunked this rumor. In other words, we'll probably have to wait a little longer for new Apple tablets to arrive.

Gurman had previously stated that Apple's next-generation tablets would arrive in late March or April.  Of the March 26 rumor, Gurman took to X, formerly Twitter, to say it was "not true."
