Microsoft has just launched a sign up page for its upcoming Skype translation tool that the company hopes will “pave the way for a more personal and more human era of computing” once it becomes widely available.

First announced back in May, Skype Translator does pretty much what it says on the tin – translate speech in real-time during calls made using the popular online communication tool.

As you can see from the English-German demo video below, the software provides the translation in text and speech. However, the off-putting delays and occasional mistranslations mean the software still needs some work, which is where you come in. With your feedback, Skype developers will set about tweaking the tool to bring it up to speed before rolling it out to the masses.

Enthusiastic response

“We have seen tremendous interest and enthusiasm for Skype Translator from around the globe over the last few months and we’re incredibly excited to share it with the world,” Skype’s Yasmin Khan wrote in a blog post announcing the release.

“Language barriers have been a hindrance to productivity and human connection,” Khan said in her post, adding that she hopes Skype Translator will help to transform computing into “a more personal and more human” experience once it is launched.

It’s easy to imagine Skype Translator gaining a degree of popularity, especially with firms engaged in international business where the language skills of personnel are limited. However, they’d have to have absolute confidence in the software’s capabilities, after all, one inadvertently offensive mistranslation and sealing the deal on a big contract could prove problematic.

Interested in trying out the tool at some point? Click here to sign up – but hurry, only a limited number of spots are available.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is one of my favorite Cyber Monday tech deals
The Night mode watch face on the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra.

One of my favorite smartwatches I used this year is the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra. When it was first announced, there was worry that the wearable would be an uninspired Apple Watch Ultra clone. However, I think it's one of the year's most original smartwatches, offering a striking design and a robust list of features.

As much as I like wearing the Galaxy Watch Ultra, it's proven to be a tricky recommendation. With a retail price of $650, the Galaxy Watch Ultra is a bit too expensive to be a wholehearted recommendation for everyone. However, that changes with Cyber Monday.

I love this over-the-top charger that’s a Cyber Monday bargain
The front of the Anker Prime 250W Charging Station.

Everything about the Anker Prime 250W Charging Station is overkill, and that makes it the ideal Cyber Monday 2024 deal. It gets you an over-the-top charging station for a wide variety of gadgets at a far more sensible price than usual.

I’ve been using the chunky charging dock for a few months, and it has probably all the charging ability most people will ever need.
A much more reasonable price

Every iPhone 16 model has a Cyber Monday deal. This is the one I’d choose
iPhone 16 Pro Max next to the 16 Plus, 16 Pro and regular iPhone 16

If you're shopping for a new phone, then there’s no better time than Cyber Monday. After all, there are so many deals to be had and more incentives than ever to upgrade your phone. Currently, Best Buy will give you a free $100 gift card if you purchase an iPhone 16 device from AT&T or Verizon.

That’s like $100 off, and you don’t have to trade in your old device to get it. However, if you do trade in an older phone, you can get up to $1,000 off through bill credits — on top of the $100 gift card.
