Verizon offers $100 discount for select phones, but only if you buy online

If you were looking to switch to Verizon and do not like going into physical stores, the carrier announced quite a discount for potential customers.

Thanks to Big Red’s newest promotion, potential customers can get $100 off several high-end phones, including the iPhone 6S and HTC 10. There are a few caveats, the first being the discount only applies if you make a purchase through Verizon’s online store. Secondly, the offer is only valid for new device payments, so those looking to upgrade need not apply.

The good news is that the $100 discount applies to both the phone’s full price and its equipment installment plan. Here is the full list of phones available through the promotion:

  • Apple iPhone 6 — $450 or $18.74 per month
  • Apple iPhone 6S — $
  • Apple iPhone SE
  • Samsung Galaxy S7
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 5
  • Samsung Galaxy S6
  • Samsung Galaxy S5
  • LG G5
  • HTC 10
  • Motorola Droid Turbo 2
  • BlackBerry Priv

It is not known when the promotion will end, but it might be seen as a way for Verizon to try and meet expectations for the third quarter. The carrier added 615,000 postpaid subscribers during the second quarter, a number that was quite less than the 714,000 analysts expected it to add.

Making things worse, revenues and net income were down compared to numbers during the second quarter of 2015, with net income in particular seeing a steep drop. Verizon remains bullish on its future, however, since it wants to merge Yahoo’s core Internet properties — it announced the $5 billion purchase in July — and AOL to create a strong media platform in the same vein as Comcast’s NBCUniversal.

Big Red has been down this road before with Go90, its failed mobile video service that barely took off, and time will tell if its ambitious plan will pay off down the road.

Pocket is about to close. Use this read-it-later app instead
A woman looking at her phone.

Read-it-later app Pocket is closing down in just a week’s time, so if you’re still using it, now’s the time to switch to a similar app.

As an avid user of Pocket pretty much since it launched in 2007 as Read It Later, I felt a little sad to receive a message in May informing me that it would be shutting down on July 8.

This watchOS 26 feature has me excited for the Apple Watch again
A person wearing the aluminum Apple Watch Series 10.

Ahead of Apple’s long-awaited WWDC keynote earlier this month, the company was widely reported to be working on a new AI-powered doctor that could potentially help you diagnose common conditions, recognize potential illnesses, and understand your overall health.

The rumored Apple AI doctor had me excited for WWDC, but as we saw, Apple held off on announcing this feature, presumably for a later date. However, WWDC 2025 did introduce a new feature to WatchOS 26 that isn’t a doctor, but rather a friend in the gym who keeps you motivated.
