Doctor Who featurette teases what’s to come for remaining season

Doctor Who returns with a new episode this weekend, and while many fans have likely been counting down the days — no, hours — until the midseason premiere, BBC America clearly wants to make sure it’s on everyone’s radar.

In its continuing efforts to promote the long-running science-fiction series’ return, the network has posted a new Doctor Who featurette hinting at what’s in store for The Doctor and his companions in the second half of the season. The video includes some discussion of the upcoming adventures by stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillen, as well as executive producers Piers Wenger and Beth Willis, and showrunner and head writer Steven Moffat.

While the featurette heaps lots of pre-premiere praise on the upcoming “Let’s Kill Hitler” episode, there’s also some information about which popular creatures fans can expect to see returning in the remaining episodes. Among the notable villains that will face off against The Doctor later this year are The Silence, which made their debut in the season’s multi-episode premiere, as well as classic villains Cybermen and, according to the footage, the Weeping Angels.

Oh, and there appears to be a heaping helping of creepy dolls, too — which is always nice.

The midseason premiere of Doctor Who kicks off Saturday, August 27, on BBC America.

Life after a hit show: 10 TV actors who made it big after making it big
Cassie works on an airplane in The Flight Attendant.

Making it big in the competitive world of television and streaming is incredibly difficult. A hit show doesn't come easy, and few projects are successful from the get-go. However, a precious few manage to capture the public's attention, launching their stars' careers and turning them into household names. Even so, every show has to end, and some actors find it difficult to move on after their hit show airs its last episode.

However, some actors are lucky enough to find another equally or even more successful project than their previous one. The Flight Attendant's Kaley Cuoco is the perfect proof, currently starring in not one but two hit shows after her 12-year stint on The Big Bang Theory. And just like her, many other actors found success after they had already made it big.

New Doctor Strange 2 featurette offers a glimpse of madness
Benedict Cumberbatch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Prior to various COVID-related delays, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse on Madness was actually supposed to come out before Spider-Man: No Way Home. But flipping the films around in the schedule has proven to be very fortuitous, since No Way Home has given the Doctor Strange sequel a very compelling lead-in. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) was foolish enough to meddle with the fabric of the multiverse itself when he tried to help Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Now, the bill has come due.

Marvel Studios has released a new video featurette for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that features Cumberbatch and fellow cast members Elizabeth Olsen and Benedict Wong sharing a few teasers about what's to come. Sam Raimi, the director of the first three Spider-Man movies that starred Tobey Maguire, returned to the Marvel fold to helm this sequel. And his comments in the video are also very intriguing.

What We Do In The Shadows remains bloody good in season 3
The cast of FX series What We Do In The Shadows standing outside a casino.

The FX series What We Do In The Shadows has been one of television's not-quite-hidden gems for a while now, earning critical acclaim and awards for each of its first two seasons while maintaining a modest but steady audience across both its home network and the Hulu streaming service. For a mockumentary horror-comedy series about four vampires "living" in Staten Island, starring a group of lesser-known (albeit accomplished) actors, that's an impressive achievement -- particularly when more traditional, scripted dramas and sitcoms tend to dominate conversations about TV.

Maybe even more impressive, however, is that What We Do In The Shadows has managed to keep its unique premise and format feeling fresh with each new season, and continues to deliver plenty of laughs, twists, and quotable moments as the series heads into its third season September 2.
