In January we learned that Man of Steel, Christopher Nolan’s Superman reboot, would star Henry Cavill as Clark Kent / Superman. Today, Warner Bros. has released the first picture of Cavill as the caped hero. From the looks of it, the new suit is somewhat similar in design to Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns outfit in 2004, with a three dimensional S symbol and dulled red. This new suit appears to also have some sparkle to it, resembling Spider-Man’s new outfit. Fish scales must be in over in the Hollywood costume design departments.

Also, is it just us or does Cavill look a bit sinister in this picture? We know he’s a hero, but we’re getting the vibe that he may be more like Nolan’s Batman than Reeves or Routh. Do Christopher Nolan, Director Zack Snyder, and writer David S. Goyer plan on giving the Man of Steel a darker edge? It actually looks like he’s breaking into a bank vault here. Do we want a conflicted Superman? In a way, this approach has worked for Smallville, but that was a TV show and took place before Clark Kent ever donned the blue and red suit.

The new Superman will also star Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as the editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, and Russell Crowe as Jor-El. The movie’s villain, General Zod, will be played by Michael Shannon, who you may recognize from Boardwalk Empire or Revolutionary Road. The film is set for release on June 14, 2013.

The cast of That Thing You Do!

The first weekend in May has arrived, and Hulu fans should be happy to hear that there's a new lineup of movies to enjoy. Like most of the major streamers, Hulu debuts the majority of its library additions on the first of the month. But there will more movies released on Hulu throughout May.

Since the first weekend of May is traditionally timed around the opening of a superhero movie, our first choice this weekend is a comic book film that's celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Our other two picks include Tom Hanks' directorial debut, and a generation-spanning drama that holds up three decades after its release.
The Mask (1994)
