Netflix releases full-length trailer for ‘Luke Cage,’ Marvel’s steel-skinned hero

Harlem is about to get its favorite superhero back — and he’s ready for a fight.

Marvel Entertainment and Netflix released the first full-length trailer for Luke Cage this week, offering another look at the next installment of the streaming video network’s highly successful series of shows based on Marvel Comics characters. The series follows this year’s second season of Daredevil and premieres in September, bringing back Mike Colter as the title character this time after the character debuted in last year’s Jessica Jones.

Luke Cage has Colter’s steel-skinned, superstrong hero returning to Harlem, only to meet with a new threat that brings him out of the shadows and into the spotlight as his neighborhood’s best defense against the criminals terrorizing it. Becoming a hero doesn’t come without some troubles, though, and Luke must confront the demons of his past before he can move on.

Along with Colter in the lead role, the series also stars Simone Missick (The Road to Sundance) as Misty Knight, Frank Whaley (Pulp Fiction) as Rafael Scarfe, Mahershala Ali (House of Cards) as Cottonmouth, Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy) as Shades, and Alfre Woodard (Cross Creek) as Mariah Dillard. Rosario Dawson, who appeared in both Daredevil and Jessica Jones, reprises her role as Claire Temple.

Cheo Hodari Coker (Notorious, NCIS: Los Angeles) is the showrunner on the series and also penned the scripts for the first two episodes.

The series follows two seasons of Daredevil and the first season of Jessica Jones, and will be followed by Iron Fist next year before all four title characters come together for the crossover miniseries The Defenders, scheduled to premiere in 2017. The third season of Daredevil is also expected to premiere in 2017.

The full first season of Luke Cage will be available September 30 on Netflix.

A man holds a butcher knife in Pathology.

January may seem like an odd time to watch a horror movie, but for the last few years, the genre has thrived in the first month of the year with such recent hits as M3GAN and Night Swim. 2025 brings us Wolf Man, a modern retelling of the classic werewolf tale, and all signs point to another winter horror hit.

But those movie fans who want something more mellow this weekend aren't out of luck. Streaming has plenty of options, with Max being one of the best out there. In addition to such current popular movies like Juror #2 and Furiosa, the streamer has the following three movies that, for one reason or another, have been overlooked and underrated.

Joel Kinnaman and Sandra Mae Frank in The Silent Hour.

For the middle of January, Hulu has added a handful of movies from last year that didn't make waves in theaters when they were released. Not every film was made to be a blockbuster, and this trio certainly wasn't. But they are our picks for the three great Hulu movies that you need to stream this weekend.

Our first two choices are both crime thrillers, but in different ways. The second pick kind of reminds of Lost in Translation, if Bill Murray's character was a hit man. Finally, our remaining pick is so family-friendly that's practically a Disney movie.
