ASUS announces Transformer AIO with built-in Android Tablet, and VivoTab Smart Tablet

ASUS is already off to a strong start this morning at CES, and as of 9AM it has announced two new products, including one device we’ve never even seen before. The first product ASUS announced is a new Windows 8 smart tablet, the second was the VivoTab, and a new All-in-One PC with a Tegra-powered Android tablet built on top of it. You read that right – an All-in-One with Android built into the screen. It was spotted previously in June, but it’s now getting a full publicity shot now.

It isn’t clear yet how ASUS is pulling off this hardware magic, but it looks like their new All-in-One-tablet combo, named The Transformer AIO, has a special dock that integrates a uniquely designed Tegra tablet into a fully powered computer. The computer features a rather unwieldy-looking 18.4-inch full HD android tablet running 4.1 Jelly Bean that docks to a fully-featured PC powered by a 3rd generation Intel Ivy Bridge processor. The PC will also include ASUS SonicMaster technology for “crystal-clear sound through its integrated speakers.” With the touch of a button this machine can also jump between the Windows and Android systems, though ASUS hasn’t yet shown how the two will sync or integrate. No word on pricing or availability either.

The VivoTab smart tablet, not unlike the new Lenovo Helix, is a sleek, thin, tablet computer with a detachable keyboard function. Unlike the Helix though, which actually stuffs an extended battery into the keyboard, the TranSleev keyboard included in this tablet is simply a standard keyboard, though it can double as a stand or cover for a tablet. The VivoTab smart tablet will, however, feature less powerful hardware – namely an intel Atom dual-core processor – but boasts an impressive 9.5 hour battery life, fluid 5-point multi-touch, 1366×768 HD display, and Windows 8 all rolled into the 10.1-inch LED-backlit tablet. It’s one to add to the list for the coming months, though no price or availability has been given just yet.

Remember to stay tuned to Digital Trends as we keep you updated with the latest happenings on CES all through the week, and be sure to check back for a hands-on of the Transformer AIO PC and tablet. We’re don’t yet know how it works and performs, but we do know that it’s a unique device, and an early highlight of the day.
