In case you forgot, Canon makes printers, too

While they may lack the sex appeal of the latest and greatest flat-screen TVs, Canon announced four new PIXMA MX inkjet printers among their product introductions at CES. The four office all-in-one models provide capabilities and prices that will appeal to home users interested in creativity, as well as small business users looking for productivity.

These PIXMA printers also utilize a new space-saving design. The paper tray has been moved to the front not only for easy loading, but allows the printer to be pushed fully against the wall. As office machines, all four have automatic document feeders built in, which allow for easy scanning of documents. But each can also print your photos in beautiful color.

The four new models, from the least expensive to the most are: the PIXMA MX392, the PIXMA MX452, MX522, and the PIXMA MX922 (shown above); the latter three have Wi-Fi built in, but all four come with Canon’s creative and photo enhancing and editing software. The three wireless models are compatible with Google Cloud Print and Canon Easy Photo Print, a free app for iOS and Android that lets users wirelessly print photos and scan documents, and there’s also support for Apple’s AirPrint wireless printing protocol. Each new model also works with Evernote, a popular cloud-based service that lets users take notes, save Web pages, and share info with other users.

The MX922 and MX522 printers offer wireless PictBridge, a feature that creates a direct link to compatible cameras for wireless printing. Although Canon is heavily touting this, so far the only supported cameras are limited to select models, such as their new PowerShot N. As of now, there is no indication if non-Canon cameras will support this feature.

The most affordable model, the MX392, will sell for $80, but for only $20 more you can opt for the MX45s with the built-in wireless. These two models have a multi-line monochrome LCD. The PIXMA MX522 has a 2.5 LCD screen, which makes previewing photos and changing settings easier. The MX522 will list for $150.

At the top of the line, the PIXMA MX922 has wireless connectivity, a 3-inch LCD screen, a dual-function panel that turns from a numeric keypad to a navigation panel, a high-yield black ink tank, and the capability to print on printable CDs and DVDs. It is expected to sell for $200.
