DT’s ‘Better than Socks’ Holiday Giveaway: Quadrocopter

[Update 1/1: That’s it, folks. This giveaway is now closed.]

It’s been a fun couple of weeks during DT’s ‘Better than Socks’ Holiday Giveaways, but all good things must come to an end. We thought we’d go out with a bang by giving away a freakin’ quadrocopter! That’s right; get excited. Our friends at Firebox have graciously offered to give one lucky winner his or her very own Micro Drone Quadrocopter (a value of $112).

Featuring four rotors and “automatic gyro control,” the Micro Drone is able to pull off sharp turns and 360-degree flips in midair. The quadrocopter has a flight range of close to 400 feet, and is just slightly larger than the palm of your hand. It also comes with a compact remote control with a digital display. The Micro Drone runs on four AA rechargeable batteries, and a full recharge takes about 40 minutes, which is a small price to pay for some sweet, sweet quadrocopter action.

Interested in winning a Micro Drone? Just tell us your favorite toy from holidays past in the comments below by December 31, and we’ll choose a winner on New Year’s Day. No entries submitted in 2013 will be considered, so good luck!

There’s still time to enter some of our recent giveaways, so check out DT’s Better Than Socks Holiday Giveaway page for more cool gadgets.

Microsoft is already backing down on its most controversial AI feature
The new Surface Pro on a table.

Even before Copilot+ PCs have made it to store shelves, Microsoft is already making changes to its Recall feature. Recall is at the center of Copilot+, taking snapshots of everything you do on your PC and using a local AI model to sift through that information. In response to backlash, Microsoft is making changes to how Recall works, as announced through a Windows blog post.

For starters, Recall is now opt-in instead of opt-out. Previously, Recall would be the default setting on Copilot+ laptops, but Microsoft will now show a screen during the setup process that tells users what Recall does. If you skip past the screen, Recall will remain turned off.

Dell’s cheapest student laptop just got a big discount
The Dell Inspiron 14 laptop on a white background,

It used to be that laptops were pretty rare in a classroom, but in the past 5 years or so, having a laptop has become a necessity, especially with so much of the coursework being online. To that end, grabbing a laptop is important, but you don't have to spend a ton of money on one of the best laptops to get something that's perfect for a student workload. In fact, Dell has a couple of laptops that work great for students, like the Dell Inspiron 14. While it usually goes for $500, Dell has discounted it quite heavily down to just $280, so it's almost half of and perfect for those who are on a budget.

Why you should buy the Dell Inspiron 14
There quite a few configurations of the Dell Inspiron 14, but if you don't need anything too fancy, this configuration brings the price down quite substantially. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which is the sort of processor you'd find on some of the best phones. While that does mean it isn't as powerful when it comes to running Windows 11, it's more than enough to get the basics done, such as accessing content online, or running something like the Google Suite or Microsoft 365.
