D-Link Ships DSM-750 Media Center Extender

D-Link has shipped its DSM-750Windows Media Extender, enabling users to wirelessly push content from their Media Center PCs almost anywhere in their homes.

D-Link is now shipping its DSM-750 MediaLounge Player, which is designed to work as a wireless Media Center Extender so users can pump video, music, images, and other content stored on their Windows Media Center PCs to other locations in the house without having to string cable everywhere. The DSM-750 can locate media content on a user’s home network and provide access on a television using the included remote control. The goal of media extenders like the DSM-750 is to enable users to download movies and other content directly from online sources, then painlessly access them from living-room entertainment centers—or TVs in a den, bedroom, game room, or other area of the house, since a single Media Center PC can support up to five media players.

“This powerful Extender for Windows Media Center not only provides an elegant way to enjoy your local media, but changes the way we navigate and view the Internet,” said D-Link senior director of marketing Daniel Kelley, in a statement.

The DSM-750 offers 802.11 draft-n Wi-Fi wireless networking for streaming media, 100Base-T Ethernet, and USB connectivity for displaying content on media cards or other USB-capable devices. The unit also sports HDMI, component, S-Video, and composite video output, along with optical and coax digital audio output. The DSM-750 supports MP3, WAV, WMA, and Ogg Vorbis audio, along with JPEG, PNG< TIFF, GIF, and BMP images and WMV9, MPEG, MPEG-4/H.264, AVI, and DVR-MS video formats. Being a Media Center Extender, the device also handles Windows Media Player 10 DRM.

The DSM-750 is available now at a suggested price of $329.99.
