Amazon launches members-only fashion site for high-end discounts

Today Amazon launched a new, members-only shopping site that will offer high-end designers at steep discounts of up to 60-percent off retail prices for limited time periods. The site will be competing with other luxury discount sites like Gilt Groupe, Rue La La, and Haute Look, which all offer similar private sales to members. Myhabit.com launched today and already has top designers like Doo.Ri, Elizabeth & James, Loeffler Randall, and Rebecca Minkoff slated to participate in the site’s sales for the next week.

While you do need a membership to purchase discounted items on the site, all it takes is a quick sign-up and you’re ready to shop. If you already have an account with Amazon, you can use the same login and no registration will be required. The site features hand-selected departments for women, men, and children. Four day shipping on purchases is free, and returns are too, if you can handle the detail that return credit can only be used at Myhabit, Amazon, or Endless. The site only features a small number of designers at a time, and the deals won’t last forever. While the site offers deep discounts on prime brands, the sales for the week end on Friday at 9 AM PT so shoppers will have to be on their toes to snag the best deals.

Private members-only sites like this seem to be popping up everywhere and doing fairly well. Perhaps the success of the Groupon discount trend is slowly making its way to the fashion world. Everyone loves a discount.
