Garmin ecoRoute Keeps Track of Gas Use

Garmin ecoRoute Keeps Track of Gas Use

So I was a little rough on the Skycharger. There are some quality green products here, though, and I think Garmin has one with its new GPS devices that come equipped with a new option called ecoRoute.

As the name implies, ecoRoute helps drivers choose more fuel efficient ways to make their trips, and also helps them keep an eye on their driving habits and how much they’ve used. For instance, after entering the city and highway fuel economy of your car, you can view the estimated cost to travel a destination after you enter it, and choose to prioritize gas mileage over quickest time or shortest distance, if there is a discrepancy between the different routing options. (Taking back roads, for instance, might use less gas than a quicker highway option that forces you to drive far out of your way.) There’s also a numeric meter that evaluates your driving habits, increasing as you keep your foot steady and go light on the gas, and decreasing as you leadfoot it away from lights and speed.

Right now, only the Nuvi 205 and 705 series support ecoRoute, but since it’s only a software option, but future Garmin navigators should also support it.

The U.S. government is using cellphone location data to track the movements of people during the outbreak of coronavirus, officially called COVID-19, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

Using data from the mobile advertising industry, government officials including those at the federal and state level, as well as those at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, have been tracking the public's movements to better understand how coronavirus is spread. One person involved said that there was a plan to create a portal through which officials could easily track location data for up to 500 U.S. cities, which could be used to check whether people are complying with shelter-in-place orders and staying at home.

In Brazil, the undergraduate equivalent of a thesis is the Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso, or TCC. The paper or project sums up everything students have learned over their four years at school and can take between six months to a year to complete. From start to finish, there are lots of deadlines meant to keep students on track, but many still struggle to complete their projects on time.

In preparing for a hackathon at their school, Federal University of Goiás, Ketlen Komorek and Tiago Hermano wanted to make the TCC less overwhelming for their classmates. They looked for tech-based solutions but found most apps were geared towards formatting papers than addressing the whole process. Their team developed an app, Minha Jornada TCC, that uses gamification and planning tools specifically created for the undergraduate thesis paper.
