HTC Thunderbolt owners rejoice! You’ve been putting up with horrible battery life and a bulky phone for way too long, but finally, after months of waiting, HTC and Verizon are planning to give you a small gift for your patience. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich has been released for the device. While it’s no 4.1 Jelly Bean, it’s certainly bringing many desired features to the aging device.
Android version 4.0, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich, was released back in late 2011, and while many users of the popular Google operating system are already lining up for the latest edition, Android Jelly Bean, not all smartphone owners are as fortunate For some, specifically those who own devices from 2011 or earlier, it can become difficult to keep getting updates for all the great features you want. HTC Thunderbolt owners are now getting the ICS update after months of speculation. While August was the original date for the update to go out, several issues kept it from being released. In December, a Twitter post restored excitement with HTC hinting an update was around the corner. While it’s been nearly two months since that Twitter post, it’s always better to be late than to never release an update.
Verizon has started a staggered roll out of the update is currently being staggered, meaning that even if you haven’t gotten it yet for your device then keep your eyes out for it in the coming days. Users will enjoy all sorts of new features including notifications from the lockscreen, and the Ice Cream Sandwich app-switcher screen. Sadly though, at this rate it’s anyone’s guess as to when the Thunderbolt will get Jelly Bean. We’re guessing, never.
I have an HTC Thunderbolt (updated last night to ICS) since the update I amg getting a blue lego witha question mark on it on an app that I was able to stream a show from. What HAPPENED?!!! How can I fix it?
ICS update probably uninstalled Adobe Flash. Google for flash player apk and download and install apk manually. You will not be able to get it on the play store. What app is it?
Oh my word. How do you do that! LOL. i mean install manually. I install everything from the appstore. I did find Adobe 11.1 in the manage my apps section. It gave me the option to uninstall the update for Adobe. Would it be okay to do that? The app I want to watch is The CW!
I googled, found, hit download and it ask for mirror #1 or mirror #2! What in the world does that mean? I picked one, I hope I am not screwing this phone up worse than it is!
Yea!!! It worked Thank You! I will stop now! LOL
icecream update wrecked my phone. takes 5 seconds to do anything. after factory reset i lost flash. tried downloading it as u did- still not working. u got yours working with Ice Cream?
I’m posting this from my freshly updated Thunderbolt. It’s nice to finally have a somewhat modern OS. Though I despise Sense, the updates to it are welcome. As long as the phone is not installing or updating apps, the UI feels pretty snappy. No random reboots yet, but Sense has had to restart itself in a couple cases. While typing this post using Chrome, the keyboard input is a little laggy, but manageable. Looking forward to some custom ROMs with Sense stripped out.
Was it worth the wait though? Do you think it should have came sooner?
Go to HTC site and follow instructions on clearing cache partition after the ICS update.
This resolved my problem of constant reboot and issues with lagging keystrokes.
HTC has information on their site about issues after installing the update. You have to clear a cache partition. Check it out it helped me fix my lagging and reboot problems.
This has been one of the worse phones i had purchaed. Since the stupid upgrade my phone has been very slow. When i type, go on the internet, and simply going to my hompage it takes about 5 to 10 seconds for it to show or send. Is there any way i can go back to the old one. This really upset me that i want to brake the phone. I just have one more month with this phone than i am changing phones. Ugh i hate this phone.
try a factory reset, which might improve performance
same thing happened to me. slowdown nightmare. finally did factory reset. seems to have helped. tho i lost flash and another app now unavailable. text messaging still seems slow tho. sending pic text take forever.
