CBS locks in its lineup for the fall with premiere dates for ‘MacGyver’ reboot, more

It’s going to be a busy fall for CBS, which announced the premiere dates for its MacGyver reboot and the rest of the network’s 2016-17 shows this week.

The fall season kicks off for CBS on September 15 with the premiere of Thursday Night Football, followed by six new series — three comedies and three dramas — and one six-hour dramatic miniseries. The new shows will be accompanied by a host of returning, popular programs that include the award-winning comedy The Big Bang Theory and celebrated dramas NCIS, NCIS: New Orleans, Hawaii Five-O, and Blue Bloods.

Now entering its 10th season, The Big Bang Theory will premiere at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, September 19. It will be followed by the season premieres of NCIS and NCIS: New Orleans on September 20, and Hawaii Five-O and Blue Bloods on September 23.

As for the network’s new shows, the six-hour miniseries Case Closed examines the unsolved mystery of the 1996 murder of child beauty queen JonBenét Ramsey. The limited series premieres Sunday, September 18.

Kevin James returns to television September 19 (after The Big Bang Theory premiere) for Kevin Can Wait, a comedy that casts the former King of Queens star as a retired police officer attempting to enjoy life after leaving the police force — but not his former cop buddies — behind him.

On September 20, NCIS actor Michael Weatherly stars in the series premiere of Bull, playing the “brilliant, brash and charming” Dr. Jason Bull, founder of a successful trial-consulting firm.

The first batch of series premieres concludes September 23 with the network’s reboot of MacGyver, featuring X-Men: First Class actor Lucas Till as the titular special agent with a knack for finding his way into — and out of — trouble.

Later in the year, Matt LeBlanc’s comedy Man With a Plan casts the actor as a contractor struggling to raise his three children (October 24), while Joel McHale plays a former outdoor-adventure journalist who takes a desk job in The Great Indoors (October 27).

Finally, the new medical drama Pure Genius also debuts on October 27. The series follows a Silicon Valley billionaire who builds an amazing hospital intended to treat rare diseases, at no cost at all.
