Could Toyota be preparing resurrect the much loved Toyota Supra? It appears that may be the case as the Japanese automaker is rumored to be banking its decision on how well its latest GT86/Scion FR-S fair.

For many a car lover, the Toyota Supra holds very near and dear to their collective hearts. One of the most iconic sports cars to come out of Japan met an untimely end back in the mid 1990’s. Since then, Toyota has offered very little in the sports car department and collectively closed the lid when production ceased altogether on the MR2 back in 2007.

But now it appears that a glimmer of hope has emerged from the land of the rising sun, and as the gearheads over at Motor Trend are reporting, it looks like a 400-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 powertrain is being tested for a possible release of a new Toyota Supra in 2015. According to Motor Trend, the new Supra would likely take the form of the FT-HS concept that Toyota showcased at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show and, if it does indeed see production,it will depend heavily on how well the GT86 (Europe) and the Scion FR-S (U.S.) does.

  12. jesterking at 10:26am 13th December 2011 I've been following this for a couple of years now... There are two car companies that I loath with a passion, Honda, and Toyota. But with the recent moves with the GT86, and hopefully this new Supra. They are starting to win me over.
    1. TechFreak at 10:56am 13th December 2011 Me too. I would love to see a new Supra car out there. I'm OK with it being a tad more expensive too, as long as it has power and the Tuner market adopts it.
      1. jesterking at 12:14pm 13th December 2011 The big problem that I have with "tuner friendly" cars on the market is that, if the part isn't installed by the dealer, and it's not a manufactured approved part, they will fight with you to void your warranty. Even though they have to prove that the added part was the part that actually caused the damage, if you ever have a warranty problem. Most cases it's just not worth it, because the dealership would put up such a fight, it would cost you more time and money in the long run... So if they got away from that practice, man... could you imagine?
        1. TechFreak at 1:57pm 13th December 2011 True. There are some tuner shops that will match your warranty for you though. And some brands have their own tuner side like Dinan for BMW, MazdaSpeed and Toyota TRD (I think thats it).
          1. jesterking at 4:54pm 13th December 2011 SPT for Subaru, but, they are too damn expensive for their product. I looked into an SPT exhaust for my WRX, and it cost damn near $1,200 for it installed. Which is the only way they would honor the warranty. If they installed it, go figure. I can get an invidia q300 for half that and install it myself. And it would be a much better exhaust... Go figure. Expensive, for less quality. Then again, we were talking about apple in another article, right? lol
            1. TechFreak at 8:24pm 13th December 2011 lol yes we are. A lot of people I know are buying the Procede chip for their BMW 335i's and then just pulling the chip out (ECU plugin) when they need to take their car in for service. That way they pay half the price of the Dinan, get more power and then still have their car under warranty when they need it.
