Intel Might Get Into...Car Batteries?

Andrew Grove might have retired from chipmaker Intel back in 2005, but he still has some words of advice for current CEO Paul Otellini: consider making advanced batteries for plug-in electric cars.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Grove, who still works for Intel in an advisory capacity, has urged Otellini to consider getting the company into high-end batteries as a way to diversity its business. The automotive industry will likely be looking to technology companies to improve battery technology and reduce production costs on automative batteries as the industry begins to offer more electric vehicles.

Apple Computer seeks new direction

But in recent years Apple’s visionary chief executive, Steve Jobs, has found another world to conquer: the field of digital media.

Bent on bringing music, photography and video to the home computer, Jobs reportedly is seriously discussing the acquisition of the world’s largest record company, Universal Music Group.

The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that Apple is set to offer conglomerate Vivendi Universal up to $6 billion for the music company. Burdened with debt, Vivendi has been exploring the sale of some or all of its entertainment assets, including its movie and theme park businesses.
