Conan O’Brien’s attempt to play ‘Final Fantasy XV’ goes as badly as you’d expect

Conan O’Brien doesn’t like video games. He has been open about this ever since he started doing his “Clueless Gamer” review series on his talk show Conan, and his disdain for the medium is largely what makes these videos so hilarious. In his most recent adventure, he tackled the upcoming action-RPG Final Fantasy XV with guest Elijah Wood. The Final Fantasy series is one of the most obtuse, bizarre sets of video games to ever find mainstream success, and Conan’s attempt to play the latest installment goes about as badly as you’d expect.

“Remember, good luck with your Japanese nightclub,” Conan says as Noctis Lucis Caelum’s father wishes him luck on his adventure.

Soon, Conan and Wood are spending their time pushing a convertible through the desert before arriving at a shop, only to find that they have absolutely no money.

“We’re trapped in a Beckett play,” Conan says, in a comment that could apply equally to the long wait for a new Chrono Trigger sequel. “There’s nothing that’s going to happen. We’re waiting for things that can’t happen.”

Once Noctis and his friends finally get their car fixed, they embark on a group of Chocobos, the flightless birds seen in most of the series’ entries, to meet with a group of seismologists investigating local tremors. Conan believes they’re Kevin Spacey and Angela Merkel, which makes as much sense as anything else in Final Fantasy XV.

Soon, an enormous boss rises from the ground and Wood dispatches him in record time. But the two soon learn a dark secret from “Clueless Gamer” sidekick Aaron Bleyaert: the boss isn’t dead, and it will take 72 real-time hours to kill him for good.

“I don’t know what we achieved. I don’t know what we were trying to achieve. I have no sense of satisfaction,” Conan says.

The game isn’t exactly Conan’s cup of tea, but he didn’t particularly care for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U, either. Make of that what you will.

Final Fantasy XV is out on November 29 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Your GTA 6 ‘physical copy’ could expire before you even play it

The debate around GTA 6's "physical" edition just got another twist. Rockstar has confirmed on its official website that PS5 download codes included with physical copies of Grand Theft Auto VI sold in Japan will expire 170 days after the game's November 19, 2026 launch date. That means players who don't redeem the code before roughly May 8, 2027 could be left with nothing more than an empty game box, even though they purchased a physical copy. The company says the policy is required due to regional regulations in Japan.

Lenovo’s $99 280Hz gaming monitor is built for the ramen-budget crowd
Lenovo is selling a 280Hz monitor for less than GTA 6 Ultimate Edition
Lenovo gaming monitor render

Fresh off launching a metallic Hall-effect keyboard and a 59g gaming mouse for flashy esports setups, Lenovo has turned its attention to gamers working with much tighter budgets. The Legion 24-1r looks made for broke college students who spent way too much on their first gaming rig and now have instant noodles doing most of the heavy lifting at dinner. It costs just 669 yuan, equivalent to around $99, yet offers a 23.8-inch IPS panel running at up to 280Hz.

Lenovo is also offering the 27-inch Legion 27-1r with the same core specifications for 789 yuan, or roughly $116. For the ramen-budget crowd chasing competitive frame rates, both look like seriously tempting deals. (via NotebookCheck)
