Samsung teases Note 10 feature as invites go out for its next Galaxy Unpacked

[Invitation] Samsung Galaxy UNPACKED 2019: The Next Galaxy

Mark your calendar: The next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event will take place on August 7 in New York City. Samsung confirmed the event’s date and location to Digital Trends, which had already leaked last week. A few hours after confirming to Digital Trends, the Samsung Mobile Twitter account also tweeted out a confirmation.

The event will occur at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn at 4 p.m. ET, and it’s widely expected to see Samsung launch the next Note smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. The venue is the same as last year’s Note 9 launch event.

The invitation shows a GIF of a black S Pen drawing a camera, suggesting there will be a connection between the stylus — which is one of the key features that differentiates the Galaxy Note series from Samsung’s Galaxy S-series — and the camera. The camera doesn’t look like leaked images of the triple-camera lenses on the back of the phone, which infers that it’s specifically referencing the selfie camera. Last year’s Note 9 added a feature that allowed the S Pen to act as a remote control for the camera.

Samsung’s Note 10 is purported to have a single hole-punch selfie camera — just like the Galaxy S10 and S10e — and patents suggest Samsung may put the selfie camera inside the stylus, which would allow for thinner bezels on the front, and more utility for the stylus. That could be what we’re looking at in this GIF.

The Note range doesn’t sell quite as many units as the Galaxy S series, but it’s still one of the biggest phone releases for the year. Other rumors suggest the phone will have a triple-lens camera on the back, which lines up with the existing Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus range, which have triple-lens cameras as well. Leaked renders also point to a 6.3-inch edge-to-edge display and no headphone jack. Under the hood, the phone will likely offer a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, and there may even be a model with 5G connectivity, making it as future-facing a phone as the Note line ever has been. You can see more rumors on the new phone in our handy roundup.

The Galaxy Note 10 likely won’t be the only product at Galaxy Unpacked. Last year, the company announced the Samsung Galaxy Watch, which Samsung positioned as a device that could go head to head with the Apple Watch. New rumors about a Galaxy Watch Active 2 recently cropped up, so there’s a chance we can see a follow up at this event. The company also announced the Galaxy Home smart speaker, last year, which has yet to launch, so there’s a small chance we may hear news on that front. The company may even take the opportunity to discuss the Galaxy Fold, its foldable phone that’s currently in limbo after display errors prevented Samsung from launching the device on time.

Updated on July 2, 2019: Samsung Mobile’s Twitter account has confirmed the confirmation.

Samsung finally unveiled its next generation of flagship Android phones, the Galaxy S24 series, during the January Unpacked event in San Jose, California. The new Galaxy S24 lineup includes the base model S24, S24 Plus, and the top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra.

There’s a lot to love about these new phones. They’re powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip that's blazing fast and a top performer, especially when combined with at least 8GB or 12GB RAM. The S24 Ultra goes a step further with a new 50MP telephoto camera for 5x optical zoom. And all of the S24 series comes packed with brand new Galaxy AI features — including Live Translate, Chat Assist, Transcript Assist, and more.

The big Android dogs from Samsung  —the Galaxy S24 series — are out to challenge the smartphone supremacy crown in 2024. There are minor design improvements, a faster chip, a slightly tweaked camera, a big jump in thermal management capacity, and loads of AI hype around them.

Some of those AI features come courtesy of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy silicon, while others are built in-house or with some help from Google. But behind the scenes, Samsung has again employed a controversial two-chip sales formula.
