Samsung introduces anything-proof, HD camcorder with the W200

W200FrontNow that the Flip Cam has been killed off, alternatives are coming out of the woodwork, and Samsung has something to add to that list with the W200. The pocket camera’s make is reminiscent of many of its pocket camcorder competitors and features a slew of rugged capabilities. But before we brief you about all the damage the device can take, here’s a look at its shooting and recording abilities.

The W200 is clearly meant to be used for recording in full HD, and its 5-megapixel back side illuminated CMOS sensor isn’t anything to get too excited about when it comes to shooting stills–although it does feature dual image stabilization, always a coup. The camera comes with an F2.2 lens which does make it more equipped to shoot in low light settings. It also features a 2.3-inch LCD display, but again, isn’t meant to be your all-purpose digital camera, and its display is limited to a 230k pixel resolution.

W200BackWhen it comes to the more entertaining features, the W200 has plenty. In addition to being waterproof up to three meters, shockproof up to two meters, and including a built-in USB, the camera also includes several presets and filters for on the go editing and added creativity. Overall, the W200 boasts specs fairly similar to the Kodak PlaySport.

Samsung also says that the W200 won’t need to be constantly wiped down after underwater use, which most tough cams advise you to do, and its lens and sensor are also optimized for keeping underwater shots bright. The W200 can also stand up to fog, so you’re able to fully ignore the device and still capture clear images.

W200SideThe camera will be available in May for $159. Take a look below for a further look at its specs.

How to transfer photos from an iPhone to an iPhone

We all love making memories, and a great way to collect those memories is to take a quick snap of a gorgeous landscape, a party in full swing, or a particularly incredible meal. The Apple iPhone now also adds a location to your pictures, meaning it can collate those images together into a location-themed album, or show you all the shots you've taken in a specific location. It's a fun little addition, and it's one that adds a lot of personality to the Photos app.
