Sony PSP Screen Problem Upsets Customers

“Technical issues during a hardware launch are nothing new, but with a machine as delicate as PSP, reports of problems are more rampant. The most common complaint is a “dead pixel,” which appears ona screen in a variety of forms (red, blue, green, white spots, dark spots). Jump on any message board and you’ll find posts littered with personal accounts of anywhere from one to 25 or more deadpixels appearing on brand-new PSPs.

SCEA doesn’t deny PSP machines may encounter these issues, but doesn’t see it as a problem. “As with any LCD product on the market, a very small number of dark pixels or continuously lit pixels is normal for LCD screens, and is not a sign of a malfunction.” says Patrick Seybold, a Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) representative. A similar description also appears in the PSP’s user manual. What defines a small number, however, isn’t known, and SCEA had not responded to our requests for clarification as of press time. “

Everything we know about The Last of Us Part II
The long-awaited sequel will be here soon, so get caught up on all the news
Everything we know so far about 'The Last of Us Part II'

Naughty Dog’s survival game The Last of Us breathed new life into the zombie genre, with emotional storytelling that garnered nigh universal praise. It set a high bar for any sequel to clear, a hurdle that creative director Neil Druckmann recognized in 2014, claiming the studio would only do a sequel if they had "a story that’s really worth telling." Druckmann and company seem to have found that story, having announced The Last of Us Part II at the PlayStation Experience in 2016 and given out very brief bits of content in the years that followed. What story will the sequel tell? How will it build on the gameplay of its predecessor? Here is everything we know so far.
Story details
Naughty Dog has kept most plot details under wraps, but we know the game takes place five years after the original The Last of Us. Although the first game focused on the loving bond between Joel and Ellie, Druckmann told fans at PlayStation Experience 2016 that the theme of the sequel is "hate." We also know players will primarily control Ellie rather than Joel this time around.

Following the announcement at PlayStation Experience 2016, Druckmann, along with voice actors Troy Baker (Joel) and Ashley Johnson (Ellie), took part in a panel hosted by Game Informer’s Andy McNamara.

Sony patent for PS5 could eliminate loading screens altogether
PS5 2019 patent Sony load no loading screens continuation

We have an idea of what kind of components will make up next-generation gaming consoles and they’re clearly in a position to enhance gaming experiences as we know and love them. Both the Project Scarlett and PlayStation 5 will have solid-state drives, improving speeds overall, but a patent from Sony suggests that the PS5 will be able to completely eliminate loading times.

Here’s the abstract synopsis of what this U.S. patent is capable of, as reported by Inverse:
“A system and method are disclosed for dynamically loading game software for smooth game play. A load boundary associated with a game environment is identified. A position of a character in the game environment is then monitored. Instructions corresponding to a next game environment are loaded into a memory when the character crosses the load boundary, such that game play is not interrupted.”
The patent under the microscope here is specifically a patent continuation, which simply means that Sony is adding additional claims to the capabilities of a previously filed patent from 2014. If the description above isn’t clear enough, more detailed text further into the patent focuses on continuation points (not related to the patent’s classification as a continuation, but to points players encounter in a game).

3 underrated Xbox Game Pass titles to play this weekend (May 31-June 2)
A knight with a large sword prepares to stab a dragon in Lords of the Fallen.

We're right on the precipice of June, which will be chock-full of new game announcements from every publisher. In fact, that wave already started with Sony's May 30 State of Play. Still, just because this time of year is mainly focused on video game announcements doesn't mean you shouldn't be playing anything new. If you're an Xbox Game Pass subscriber in particular, there are three titles you can have a great time with this weekend.

For those excited about Until Dawn's PC and PS5 remake, I recommend you check out developer Supermassive Games' previous narrative title, which is actually available through Game Pass. The other two games are new to the service. One is a Soulslike that was nearly a decade in the making, but paid off that wait by being an impressive title that stands toe-to-toe with FromSoftware's work. The other is one of 2023's best games, a puzzler that will make you think more deeply about how people interact with each other.
