Borderlands 2 came out more than a year ago at this point, but it’s freshly bolstered with new DLC and will soon play host to a month-long contest that equips players with new content that they can use to score cash and other prizes. The Borderlands 2 $100,000 Loot Hunt is an in-game event that will run from October 11 through November 7. Every week, one of the Borderlands 2 NPCs – Claptrap is up first – will dish out a series of daily targets that players must then hunt down in the game’s world of Pandora. Off the target and you’ll nab a brand new firearm that you’re then meant to use as part of a community-wide goal which has yet to be revealed.
Those who wish to participate in the contest can effectively enter once per day by taking out the daily target (the community goals are separate). There’s a $50,000 grand prize at the end of the month and smaller cash prizes in each of the preceding weeks. Participants also have a chance to win a number of physical prizes, including Borderlands 2-equipped PlayStation Vitas (once the portable version of the game is released, of course), Turtle Beach headsets, NVIDIA hardware, Prima strategy guides for the game, and lifetime access to all 2K titles released on Steam, past, present, and future. You can find a full rundown of the rules at borderlands2loothunt.com.
In short: play Borderlands 2, get new loot, maybe win some prizes. Not a terrible bid to draw your attention away from all of the new and shiny toys that every holiday season brings.
