Bethesda Softworks yesterday said their latest Elder Scrolls installment, Oblivion, had achieved record sales, received extremely good reviews and was basically raking in a ton of cash for the company. The title was released for the PC and Xbox 360 on March 21.
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, said Bethesda Softworks, has shipped over 1.7 million units since its initial release. It has reportedly become the fastest selling game released thus far for the Xbox 360, while the PC version currently tops sales of all PC games with a 13% representation of all sales in this category in the first week of its release.
Reviewers, added Bethesda, have generally been favorable towards the addictive first person role playing game as well. Official Xbox Magazine (US) gave Oblivion a 9.5 out of 10 and an Editor’s Choice award, calling Oblivion “An Absolute Masterpiece.” PC Gamer (US) awarded it an Editor’s Choice Award and a score of 95%, calling it “a classic” and “one of the best RPGs ever made.” And the largest circulation gaming magazine in the world, Game Informer, gave Oblivion 9.5 out of 10 and said, “The bar for the next generation of RPGs has just been set.”
