amazon turns kindle into a true productivity tool with new scribe lineup
Amazon

What’s happened? Amazon has expanded the Kindle Scribe range into three distinct models. The lineup now spans a premium Colorsoft edition with a color display, a redesigned standard Scribe, and a lower-cost version without a front light aimed at affordability.

  • Kindle Scribe Colorsoft introduces a color display designed for creative work. It uses a custom filter and light guide to produce soft, eye-friendly colors, and supports colored pens, shading, and highlighting for expressive note-taking.
  • Kindle Scribe (standard model) gets a slimmer 5.4mm body, weighs 400g, and features a redesigned 11-inch glare-free display with reduced parallax and improved lighting. A new quad-core processor makes writing and page turns faster and smoother.
  • Kindle Scribe without front light lowers the entry price by removing the lighting system while keeping core reading and writing functions. It is positioned as the most affordable way to combine Kindle books with digital notebooks.

This is important because: Amazon is no longer treating the Scribe as one-size-fits-all. By expanding into three models, it’s giving users options that fit different budgets and workflows.

  • The Colorsoft edition expands the creative use cases of Kindle with tools for drawing, design, and expressive annotations in natural color.
  • The redesigned standard model benefits from the new quad-core processor, which makes AI-powered note search, summaries, and page turns feel quicker and more seamless.
  • The affordable no-front-light version lowers the entry barrier for anyone who wants Kindle’s combined reading and writing features without the higher price tag.
  • Integration with Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive enables direct import and export of files, a feature aimed at workplace and academic users.
  • Future support for Alexa+ will let users send notes to the assistant and interact with them through voice.

Why should I care? The new Scribe lineup makes digital note-taking and reading more adaptable to different needs and budgets. Each model is built to serve a clear purpose.

  • Colorsoft is ideal for creative projects, letting users sketch, annotate, and highlight in color without the eye strain of a tablet. Artists, designers, and students can bring more expression to their notes and drawings.
  • The standard model is faster and more natural to write on, with near-zero parallax and a paper-like texture that helps professionals and students take notes, review documents, and stay organized with AI-powered search and cloud sync.
  • The no-front-light version opens up Kindle Scribe to more people with its lower price point, offering the same reading and writing tools without the premium lighting system.

Okay, so what’s next? Amazon has confirmed release dates and pricing for the new Kindle Scribe models, with availability staggered between late 2025 and early 2026.

  • The standard Kindle Scribe will launch in the U.S. later this year from $499.99, while the Colorsoft model will start at $629.99.
  • A lower-cost version without a front light is planned for early 2026 at $429.99, alongside new folio covers and an updated pen that never needs charging.

Apple will only give you the fastest iPad mini chip if you pay $999, or more
The full A20 Pro experience on Apple’s new iPad mini is reserved for buyers spending at least $999.
Apple iPad mini with 6-core CPU

Apple has just launched its latest iPad mini with a notable set of upgrades, including an OLED screen, improved speakers, and a more resilient build. It also gets a new chip, and the whole package costs $200 more than its predecessor. But if you look closely at Apple’s online store, you’ll realize that $699 isn’t enough to get you the most powerful version of the A20 Pro chip inside this tablet. In fact, even if you pay $800 for the 256GB model, you still won’t get the beefiest variant. Only when you jump to the 512GB trim, which costs an absurd $999, do you get the most powerful flavor of the A20 Pro.

Ahead of its October 28 “Pro and Tell” event, Apple has refreshed the iPad mini with an OLED display (the first for the mini line), the company’s latest in-house, Pro-grade chipset, and something else that made me read twice: an Acoustic Display design.

The iPad mini (8th generation) starts at $699 for Wi-Fi and $849 for cellular variants. Pre-orders start October 28, 2026, and general sales begin November 6, 2026.
