HP shows off its Pads with new Elite and Pro Windows 8 Tablets

Hewlett Packard just announced two new tablets, the ElitePad 1000 G2 and the ProPad 600, both of which will be of interest to those who need to take their work home with them. The former looks like the model to have, so let’s take a closer look at it first. A big 10.1-inch screen touchscreen with a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution dominates the front, and displays the Windows 8.1 operating system. It’s a beast though. The chassis measures 9.2mm thick – hardly massive, but much thicker than models such as Sony’s Xperia Tablet Z, which is just 6.9mm thick – and weighs 625 grams.

Inside is a quad-core Intel Atom processor, although HP hasn’t identified the exact model just yet, plus there’s NFC, 4G LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. HP also talks about the tablet’s military standard reliability, and its beefed up security. From the picture, we can see it’ll come with a stylus too. A full spec sheet hasn’t been released for the newly announced ElitePad 1000 G2, but more information should be revealed over the course of MWC 2014, where the tablet is on display.

The ElitePad is joined by the ProPad 600, which again runs Windows 8.1. It also shares the same 10.1-inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display, and another quad-core Atom processor. The body has a Micro HDMI port, plus a MicroSD card slot to add another 32GB of memory to the standard 64GB.

HP will be letting us know when its two new tablets will go on sale, and how much they’ll cost, over the next few days. We’ll update you here with all this, plus a complete spec list when it’s made available.
