Chipmaker Intel has announced it is adding a 160 GB drive to its X25-M and X18-M lines of 2.5-inch and 1.8-inch solid state drives. Intel got into the SSD market last August with two lines, the X25-E and X18-E aimed at enterprise applications, and the X25-M and X18-M aimed at mainstream computing uses. The drives are designed to be drop-in replacements for standard 2.5-inch and 1.8-inch SATA hard drives.
Both drives feature Intel’s multi-level cell (MLC) flash memory, and support read speeds of up to 250 MB/s and write speeds of up to 70 MB/s. The drives have a read latency of 85 ms, and support both 1.5 Gb/s and 3.0 GB/s interfaces.
Intel hasn’t released pricing information on the 160 GB units, but the 160 GB X25-M should be available now, with the X18-M following next month.
