Only in Asia: This is a $75 novelty camera made out of paper

With all sorts of metals and plastics used, digital cameras, whether it’s the traditional or cameraphone variety, are not exactly eco-friendly. If you’re looking for a “green” camera, how about this quirky shooter that’s made out of paper?

The Paper Shoot camera is made out of heavy-stock paper, which gives it some durability. Created by a Taiwanese company of the same name, it’s not a particularly strong point-and-shoot camera, with a 5-megapixel CMOS sensor with four shooting modes (classic, black and white, sepia, and blue). But, then again, there’s no mistaking this for a DSLR. The Paper Shoot weighs just 2.8 ounces and measures approximately half-and-inch. It’s powered by two AA batteries, and it saves images onto an SD card.

The camera is available in various designs, but the best one is the plain model that you can personalize by drawing on it. Since it’s made with recycled paper and non-toxic ink, the Paper Shoot is eco. Of course, it’s not meant to be a serious camera, but a fun gift or a child’s first camera.

HKTDC, a distributor, lists the Paper Shoot at $60 on its website, although that might be a wholesale price. Akihabara News says it’s now on sale in Japan for ¥7,560, which translates to approximately $75. No info yet on U.S. availability, but it’s expensive considering what it is.
