This tablet, by TrekStor, promises to deliver new Android updates within 2 weeks

Back in September, Intel announced the Intel Reference Design for Android (IRDA). This would allow manufacturers to have a list of supported hardware that would guarantee Android updates no later than two weeks after Google makes these updates available for up to two years. German company TrekStor says it will join this initiative with the Xintron I 7.0.

The Xintron I 7.0 is the first tablet to attempt this feat. It’s nothing special, either. We’re looking at a decidedly mid-range tablet, with its Intel Atom Z375G Bay Trail processor and 1GB of RAM. As the name implies, the Xintron is equipped with a 7-inch 1280 x 800 display.

It has a 1.26-megapixel front camera and a 5-megapixel camera on the back. While the Xintron only comes with 8GB of storage, it does have a MicroSD card slot to help you pack in a few extra gigabytes if needed (and you will need the space). It also has a standard array of radios, such as 802.11n Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth 4.0.

The first IRDA tablet will remain exclusive to Europe, but it’s obvious that Intel has set its eyes on Android and its ever-inflating market share. Even though the Xintron’s specifications aren’t much to speak of, the promise of speedy Android updates is always a strong pull.

The Honor Magic 6 RSR is my new favorite Android phone of 2024
Someone holding the Honor Magic 6 RSR outside.

There's no doubt that 2024 has already been an exciting year for Android phones. Samsung wowed us with the Galaxy S24 series at the beginning of the year, the OnePlus 12 and 12R are two of the best phones available right now, and Google is expected to impress later this month with the Google Pixel 8a.

But for the last few weeks, I haven't been thinking about any of those phones. Why? Because I've been using the Honor Magic 6 RSR. After launching in China this past March, the Magic 6 RSR is now available in the EU, and that's allowed more folks than ever to get their hands on the phone. And that's great, because the Honor Magic 6 RSR has quickly become my new favorite Android phone of 2024.
