Explore the fresh alien vistas of the next Mass Effect with this new batch of concept art

BioWare shared some concept art for Mass Effect 4 while some of the creative leads spoke a bit about what the game will entail, part of the studio’s annual (since 2012) “N7 Day” tradition. In addition to falling on November 7, N7 refers to the elite forces in the series’ Systems Alliance military.

Exploration was the main buzzword of the presentation. The studio’s aim is to create the largest Mass Effect game yet, with a more diverse range of locations for you to explore than has been previously available.

To that end, the first game’s hated Mako rover is making a big return, featuring improved handling and a wider array of features and functions. The BioWare guys waxed nostalgic about the hours they have lost so far to aimlessly exploring alien vistas in the new Mako. They aim to make freeform exploration for its own sake an enticing alternative to simply following the story or particular side quests.

They also hinted at a new race that will be present in the game. One of the concepts showed dwellings nestled into a cliff, close to waterfalls. The environmental integration of the structures pictured hint at a peaceful nature, according to BioWare, projecting “an aura of welcomeness.”

The only hint given about story was that the main character would become a hero over the course of the game, rather than starting out with a reputation like the prior trilogy’s Commander Shepard.

BioWare concluded the stream with a firm “when it’s ready” release window, so don’t lose sleep waiting for Mass Effect 4… which might not even be its actual name. Fortunately, Dragon Age: Inquisition is just around the corner to scratch that roleplaying itch until then.

bioware early stages next mass effect andromeda ryder

The next Mass Effect game is reportedly in development at BioWare, though fans of the space RPG should not expect to get their hands on it any time soon.

The rumor comes from Kotaku's Jason Schreier, in his report that claims BioWare and Electronic Arts are planning a major overhaul for Anthem. The changes, which may come as one large update or a series of smaller ones, will reportedly include the structure of missions, the loot system, and the third-person shooter's world itself.

Mass Effect skins breathe new life into Anthem — for a limited time
Mass Effect in Anthem

As part of BioWare’s annual Mass Effect celebration, N7 Day, the developer is now offering four themed Javelin skins in Anthem. You’ll also find a new emote within the in-game store along with a Mass Effect: Andromeda-themed wrap. You can grab these items until November 12.

For starters, the new Storm Javelin skin resembles Dr. Liara T’Soni from Mass Effect 3, an Asari researcher focusing on Prothean technology. Meanwhile, the new Ranger Javelin skin resembles Garrus Vakarian from the same game, a Turian and formerly part of C-Sec’s Investigation Division.

How to get to Monkey Island in Sea of Thieves
An election poster for guybrush in Sea of Thieves.

Over the course of its many years of updates and expansions, Sea of Thieves has had a few notable crossovers with other pirate franchises. The Pirates of the Caribbean crossover let you team up with the legendary Jack Sparrow, but the Monkey Island content felt like it came out of nowhere. For those unaware, Monkey Island is a series of pirate point-and-click games that were as funny as the puzzles were obscure. Thankfully, you don't have to intuit that you need to combine a cat whisker with a mason jar to bypass a skeleton guard to get to this new content, but it is more challenging than you might think.
