The Italian motoring staple has been experiencing sluggish sales lately, and the low-volume brand is looking to expand its growing lineup.
Currently, the automaker offers the MiTo hatch, Giulietta compact, and 4C sports car, but a new report by Automotive News Europe suggests that a new midsize sedan will arrive in June 2015.
Codenamed ‘project 952,’ the four-door was originally expected to debut in 2014 as the Giulia, but it’s rumored to wear a different nameplate when it arrives next year.
As we reported in September, the sedan could introduce a new range of gasoline engines, including a 2.2-liter four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 producing something to the tune of 500 horsepower. But don’t get too excited, Americans: the Giulia will be Europe-only.
In September, Alfa announced plans to build eight new models by 2018, including the aforementioned midsize, a large flagship sedan, and a midsize SUV. It’s all a part of Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne’s lofty goal to sell 400,000 vehicles annually by 2018. For reference, the Milan-based manufacturer sold around 74,000 units last year.
There have also been rumblings of a new sports car due in 2017, a Jaguar-fighting speedster called the 6C.
As you may have deduced, it would sit between the small 4C and larger, V8-powered 8C, offering the same 500-horsepower V6 as the sedan above. Additionally, the 6C should draw major styling hints from the Maserati Alfieri concept.
Is Alfa Romeo back? We certainly hope so, but only time will tell.
