Go ahead, invade a small country with this 1989 Lamborghini LM002

Is your resolution for 2015 to spend nearly a quarter of a million dollars on a 25-year old Italian SUV that’s rarer than a LaFerrari?  Get ready to start the year off right because a 1989 Lamborghini LM002 is scheduled to cross the auction block in Arizona on January 16th.

Finished in an eye-catching shade of red, this LM002 is one of about 301 examples built by Lamborghini between 1986 and 1993. The auction description reveals that the off-roader has spent the bulk of its life in the Pacific Northwest. It has only had two owners since new, which partly explains why the odometer reads merely 18,000 miles.

The LM002 is entirely original inside and out save for some of the wood trim on the dashboard that was recently replaced. The 17-inch wheels are still wrapped by the original Pirelli Scorpion tires that were mounted at the factory. That’s probably a real boon because the Pirelli Scorpion was designed and built specifically for the LM002.

Well maintained and fully functional, the LM002 packs a Countach-sourced 5.2-liter V12 engine that generates 444 horsepower thanks in part to a total of six Weber carburetors. Linked to a five-speed manual transmission that spins all four wheels, the V12 sends the 5,720-pound behemoth from zero to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds and returns approximately eight mpg in a mixed cycle.

RM Auctions estimates the Lamborghini LM002 will sell for anywhere between $175,000 and $225,000.

The front three-quarter view of a 2022 Rivian against a rocky backdrop.

Rivian has finally unveiled the R2, its long-awaited attempt at a more affordable electric SUV. The new vehicle may not be available just yet, but fans of Rivian's design aesthetics and feature set are already looking forward to being able to order the new car. The R2 is targeted at being a more affordable take on the electric SUV and will sit alongside the flagship-tier R1S.

Let's get this out of the way right now: The R1S is most likely going to be a better vehicle than the R2. Rivian isn't replacing the R1S with the R2 — it's releasing the R2 as a more affordable alternative, and there will be some compromises when buying the R2 over the R1S.

Don’t let the gimmicks fool you. The Ioniq 5 N is a serious track car
2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N drifting.

We’re finally getting to the fun part of automakers’ methodical quest to replicate their lineups with electric cars.

Performance versions of ordinary cars have been a staple of the auto industry for decades. But while we’ve already seen some variants of EVs boasting more power and more impressive stats — think Tesla Model S Plaid or Lucid Air Sapphire — the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the first to truly apply that format to an EV.
