After lining up some high-profile casting in recent weeks, Oliver Stone’s biopic of Edward Snowden has apparently begun shooting with star Joseph Gordon-Levitt appearing in the first official image from Snowden.

Open Road Films and Gordon-Levitt released the new image today (March 3) featuring the actor as the former information analyst who was deemed a national security risk when he released a deluge of confidential documents that revealed aspects of the U.S. government’s illegal surveillance of its own citizens. The National Security Agency whistleblower is currently living under asylum in Russia.

The first image from the film is said to be of Gordon-Levitt as a uniformed Snowden in the days before the controversial events took place that would make him a household name.

“Before he was a whistle-blower, Edward was an ordinary man who unquestioningly served his country,” reads the studio’s description of the photo.

Stone’s film focuses primarily on Snowden’s initial release of information to journalists, his time in Russia as he waited to know whether he’d be granted asylum, and the uncertain period when he faced the possibility of extradition to the U.S. to face charges for leaking sensitive data. The books The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man by Luke Harding and Time of the Octopus by Anatoly Kucherena (Snowden’s attorney in Russia) served as the inspiration for the film.

Along with Gordon-Levitt, the cast of the film also includes Shailene Woodley, Nicolas Cage, Tom Wilkinson, Timothy Olyphant, Zachary Quinto, and Melissa Leo.

Snowden hits theaters December 25, 2015.

The Mandalorian and Grogu in a poster for the Disney+ series.

It's not hard to see why Lucasfilm gave the green light to the upcoming Mandalorian & Grogu movie. No new characters from the new Disney era are as widely beloved as they are. In a time when so many Star Wars films have been announced and subsequently abandoned, a movie based on The Mandalorian feels like a surefire hit.

And yet, everything else about this film remains a mystery. What's the story? When does it even take place? None of that is known. But I think we can agree that the following five things need to be addressed in the upcoming film.
1. The right epic feel and scope

Everything you need to know about Andor season 2
Cassian aims his gun in Andor.

Andor is arguably Lucasfilm's crowning achievement of the 21st century. While that may be up for debate, there's no denying the success of Andor season 1, culminating with universal acclaim from critics and eight Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. It's certainly the most mature Star Wars project to date.

Created by Tony Gilroy, Andor stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, the petty thief who will eventually become a key leader and spy for the Rebel Alliance. Andor is a prequel set five years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the film where Luna first introduced audiences to Cassian. It's been a long time since Andor season 1 ended in November 2022. Slowly but surely, season 2 is on the way. Below is everything you need to know about Andor season 2.
Is there a release date for Andor season 2?
There is no release date for Andor season 2 yet. Andor season 2 was originally scheduled to be released in August 2024, two years after season 1 premiered. However, the series experienced several production delays while filming because of the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes. Therefore, Andor season 2 had to move its late summer 2024 release date.
